Not all books from diverse authors need to be inspired by their own cultures. Seeking diverse voices only for the books with “traditional aesthetics” is unfair. Sometimes we want to create original worlds too. But that doesn’t change the fact that we are still v much marginalized

Sometimes asshole characters say asshole things in a work of fiction, and that emotion you feel when you read it - outrage, fury, anger - was intentional. The author WANTS you to feel angry about what that asshole said.
It DOES NOT mean the author endorses what the asshole said.
