The computer science collaboration will understand and explain a result concerning the Exponential Time Hypothesis (ETH), a longstanding conjecture about the computational complexity of Boolean formula satisfiability, a problem deeply related to the P vs. NP problem.
Surprisingly, our system has recently proved that the ETH is false, a result that was subsequently verified in Lean.
The refutation of the ETH reopens questions about how much faster these tasks could become, and may help guide the search for better algorithms. Finding such algorithms, and turning theoretical advances into practical improvements, will require significant further research.
Our system found its natural language disproof for the ETH we reached out to to @rrwilliams. Ryan will form a collaboration with Russell Impagliazzo and Ramamohan Paturi to verify and shepherd this result. Impagliazzo and Paturi, along with Francis Zane, are the original proposers of the Exponential Time Hypothesis, and Williams has refuted strong versions of the ETH, used ETH for hardness results, and connected algorithms and lower bounds.
This group asked us to make all raw data of the results public to facilitate independent verification by the community, which we have done by posting the natural language proof and Lean formalization to our GitHub repo. The group also invites the community to help organize an open examination of the ETH claim and to discuss the broader questions that AI-generated breakthroughs raise about verification, access, credit, and the future of research.

I've been obsessed with UI design for many years
when I was a child, I actually wanted to be a UI designer someday!
I can come up with *ideas* in my imagination that I like, but I struggle to translate those into real designs in Figma & other tools
not with Claude Design! 😁
After switching to Claude again 'cause of Opus 5.5, I was disappointed that Claude Chats share a usage quota with Claude Code, unlike ChatGPT where Chat is separate from Codex/ChatGPT Work,
after learning how well Haiku 5.5 works for my chat use cases, I'm no longer disappointed
literally every idea I come up with is being executed on already by someone else who had the same idea but with more money to spend on tokens than me 😭
Moonshot AI is teasing Kimi K3.1, and specifically highlighting its 3D modeling (& similar) capabilities 👀
Apparently, Anthropic is experimenting with giving Claude subscribers 20% higher 5h usage limits, but in exchange for reducing the weekly usage limits by 20%
personally, I dislike like this tradeoff 😔
🚨 BREAKING: Valve employee Mike Morasky casually mentions HLX (the codename for Half-Life 3) during GameSoundCom!

anyone else seeing "Please quit and reopen Claude to finish installing an important security update." in the Claude app on Windows?
I quit & reopened the app, still popping up
Damn, first versioned changes to the Claude API since 2023 👀
I love the fact Claude Duet is available for $20 per month plan subscribers, unlike OpenAI's Dots which is only available for $100+ per month
I also think making Duet separate from Claude is a great decision, as I likely won't touch Claude anymore once I get access to Duet
Not sure why Dots is part of ChatGPT, as I wouldn't want to use ChatGPT when I can use Dot instead! This kind of interface seems like a direct upgrade to me over the classic multiple threads chat experience
Apple has officially drained the color out of the Apple Music logo
Really neat animation though! 👀
Introducing a new identity for Apple Music, physically shaped by an original composition from @fredagainagain1 and NEST Acoustics.
so many people are posting here that Claude Fable 5.5 will release today
here's hoping it does 🙏
do you think it will?

official now: anthropic is preparing the release of their new model(s). Via The Information
Anthropic is reportedly preparing a model that, when asked to fix one bug, can identify the broader class of problems behind it and ask whether it should address those too. That account comes from one anonymous tester; the model family and release date remain unclear.
But looks like it will be a significant jump compared to their released models.
Did Samsung end support for bootloader unlocks at the worst possible time? literally *just* before it became possible to do practically anything on Android phones (even running full Windows! and running iOS apparently!) with an unlocked bootloader? 🥲
If out of absolutely nowhere, OpenAI & Anthropic both obtained 100x compute for training, and 100x compute for inference, who do you think could better translate that into training & offering the best models in the shortest amount of time?
