They think a great deal of their position; don't let one of them ever persuade you he doesn't, for if you were to proceed on that basis you'd be pulled up very short." a character in Henry James' The Portrait of A Lady, describing the "radicalism" of the upper classes.

My favorite line of recent poetry is extremely X-rated, but I love it so much.

In some ways I am the least open-minded person about sex, but it still blows my mind that we have this incredible potential source of joy and pleasure in our lives and the best we can do as a society is be insufferably weird about it.

the idea that “literature fosters empathy” is only true when a reader does the work of listening and responding to the text. it is not an automatic process. evidently

It's crazy that the amount of money spent during election cycles could literally fix most of the fucking problems politicians campaign on.

So many of you want to express hatred towards someone and just structure your politics around socially acceptable targets in your particular community.

Without television or internet, writers might earn $65,000 per short story, some becoming millionaires from fiction. Instead, we inherited civilization's two most sophisticated instruments of intellectual suicide. Born 100 years too late. We can't even be pirates or bank robbers. – at Los Cabos, Baja California Sur

The thing about the Ao3 controversy is it's one of those things in which I find both sides equally repellent.

I can personally attest that even just ~10 years ago Sanderson had a reputation as a ‘junk food’ writer within fantasy circles. Things have clearly gotten so much worse since then.
This is like asking, “have you eaten food before?” I love DCC, but I’m well aware it’s like eating my favorite candy, while reading Brandon Sanderson is a 12-course Michelin Star meal. Love them both, just differently. So read DCC, it’s great and good for the soul.

Can we please have the non-AI version of Google back? I do not want an AI summary. I do not want an AI overview. I do not want AI to read the internet for me. I want Google to show me the actual results. How do I turn this nonsense off?

Others are taking pot shots at this, but what strikes me are two things. First, he's treating his own son as some kind of test case. Secondly, what exactly does he mean by "better results"????
