The Executive Authority overseeing the Department of Justice must decisively intervene in the current state of affairs. The credibility of South Africa's justice system is already remarkably fragile.
It is further undermined when the institution itself—as distinct from the individual official—is degraded by the nature of the communications currently being issued to the public.
The dignity of the office must be rigorously preserved and shielded, even from the actions of its own incumbent and subordinate officials. The current trajectory serves only to bring the institution into disrepute.
The Department of Justice maintains a vital constitutional mandate, and it would be highly commendable if all efforts were redirected strictly toward achieving that core objective.

I am growing increasingly concerned about the conduct of this department. The Madlanga Commission must look into it when it resumes, as something is fundamentally amiss.
This is the same department under whose final responsibility IDAC falls, IDAC which operated unchecked and outside its mandate under their supervision.

Minister Kubayi will appoint a legal team in her personal capacity. As the custodian of the State Attorney Policy, the Minister is fully aware of its provisions and has responsibility to ensure compliance.
From the outset, the Minister understood that the policy does not provide for State funded legal representation in matters of this nature. Accordingly, the legal costs associated with the proceedings will not be paid by the state.
Further details regarding the legal proceedings will be communicated once the court papers have been filed.

Abo Hangwani Maumela were looting hospitals to buy blue cars. The lack of vision, a blundering mayor, the proliferation of looting, that’s what caused this. They must acknowledge that and apologise.
