The Pentagon then started buying the terminals itself, so one businessman could not switch a military operation off.
After the Iran protests, Washington quietly moved about 6,000 terminals in. Over 100,000 people stayed online after the state cut the normal network. Iran answered by banning it. Spying: death. Personal use: flogging and up to two years.
The United States can turn coverage on or off, on @elonmusk or an American political call. In a future conflict, an internet company could open a channel no government approved.
