When I became @UN Secretary-General, climate change was already an enormous threat.
Today, its impacts are all around us.
And those who did the least to cause the climate crisis are paying the highest price.
We need climate justice. Now.

ATO tax data has revealed that Huon Aquaculture owners, JBS, are the largest corporation in Australia by revenue to pay no corporate tax at all. They are destroying Tasmania's waters while paying NOTHING. This is outrageous. Fish farms out now! #politas

$2.2 million is an outrageous sum of money for one public servant to earn. What's more, 17 people in the Future Fund are now on more than a million - only one woman among them. Australians who can barely afford groceries right now, will share my outrage. tinyurl.com/mak89juh

Australians are buying health products and services online faster than our regulators can keep up: commercial telehealth, weight-loss prescribing and now largely unregulated injectables. Our emergency departments are already seeing more and more anaphylaxis, and other serious health issues related to these agents.
In August, I wrote to the Health Minister calling for a parliamentary inquiry into telehealth services and online prescribing of peptides, medicinal cannabis, Ozempic, and other medications.
Today’s reports highlight how urgently we need that sort of inquiry, and why its scope should cover all of the online healthcare market.

“After days of confusion, the West Australian government has confirmed it is now actively investigating repeated large methane emissions from Chevron's Gorgon gas project off the state's Pilbara coast.
“The Department of Water and Environmental Regulation (DWER) was initially unclear on whether it had jurisdiction over the plumes, which had been observed by a United Nations-linked satellite for the past year.
“But a government spokesperson said DWER was "working hard" to establish the cause of the emissions, and engaging with Chevron to determine the appropriate response.”

My article on AUKUS.
AUKUS is about madness, militarism and money. Turning Australia into a US military base, sacrificing our sovereignty, and enriching retired politicians, military and public servants while battlers struggle to put food on the table

Labor will remove #copyright laws with a opt-out system that allows Anthropic, Meta and Google to steal Australians Intellectual property because the Techbros wont invest in Australia if they have to pay for copyrighted content to train their LLMs

As First Nations spokesperson for the Greens I'm deeply concerned that the NT Govt has cancelled funding to the Bush Bus and cut whole communities off - I'm calling on the Federal Government to follow this up and do whatever possible to make sure people aren't just stranded.

Tripling global #nuclear by 2050 (24 yrs away) means only an additional 1,400 GWe.
Do the maths.

Family and federal court transcripts appear to have been sent offshore by transcription company VIQ, and whistleblowers raised the alarm over a decade ago. At Estimates today I asked the AG’s Department which agencies were exposed and they couldn’t tell me. We need a full audit.

A growing number of Australians want to see AI regulated and have concerns about data centres, especially when it comes to energy & water use.
The govt has lost years dithering on this policy and telling us existing regulations were adequate. It’s critical we protect communities & get long-term benefit from AI and any data centres built here.

What a relief! Lula’s unexpected victory gives hope for the Amazon. He has dramatically cut felling, while Bolsonaro’s plans would doubtless have taken it past its tipping point, ensuring total eventual destruction with huge global consequences.

The horrific attack on Helen Haines revealed 2 threats to Australian society. The surge in abuse of & threat to our elected representatives & the threadbare state of State mental health systems which must be completely rebuilt. Community safety at stake. We can’t jail this away.

The most important thing today is that Starlink and Starshield operations have been restored to the speeds we had before the restrictions. The speeds are now where they need to be. The restoration began overnight, and by this morning, speeds were already sufficient. This matters: for our frontline logistics, for defending Ukraine against jet-powered “shaheds.”
I thank all Americans and all our partners who took this seriously and truly helped – members of Congress, senators, all the media, the State Department, and the President. Protecting lives matters.
