Tuvakara. A Sanskrit word for a Chaulmoogra tree. Ayurveda used its oil against leprosy for centuries.
Frederic Mouat, a British prof. at Bengal Medical College, heard of it from Indian vaidyas and the headmaster of Hindu College. Tried at Calcutta's Leper Asylum, it worked. In 1854 Mouat wrote the 1st Western paper on chaulmoogra.
Drinking it was the hard part. Many patients said they would rather have leprosy than take one more dose.
Calcutta fixed that....
Leonard Rogers and chemistry prof. Chuni Lal Bose made a soluble salt of the oil, and on 31 July 1915 it went into patients for the 1st time.
Then Hawaii. A 23-year-old chemist there, Alice Ball, converted the oil into injectable esters.
They became the standard leprosy treatment worldwide until the 1940s. Ball died at 24, before she could publish. So her department head published the work under his own name. In 1922 a colleague finally said it was hers, and called it Ball's Method.
The tree was ours. The chemistry that made it usable was ours. And we do not remember any of it.

Tribal people in Jharkhand have had enough. At a press conference held at the Ranchi Press Club by members of the Kendriya Sarna Samiti, they issued a strict warning to Christian missionaries celebrating indigenous tribal festivals like Karam inside churches. They categorically stated that the primary adversary of tribals in India are Christian missionaries.
Kendriya Sarna Samiti Representative): "We want to warn Christian missionaries: you have already converted; you have abandoned your indigenous customs, traditions, culture, and customary systems. If you forcibly attack or hurt our rituals and traditions, we will not tolerate it. And under any circumstances, if Karam is celebrated inside a church, you must be prepared to face the consequences.
We want to state in very clear terms—you have made a mockery of this. Your entire tradition and ritual system revolves around Fathers, Sisters, and Brothers. Our customs and traditions run on the systems of Pahan (traditional priest) and Panbhara. And yet you claim to be Adivasis?
You have made a joke out of Jharkhand! We will not tolerate this.
Now you have even started celebrating Sarhul, wearing our traditional attire, and dancing to the Mandar (traditional drum). What kind of spectacle have you created?"
Soma Oraon (Tribal Leader): "We are warning the Cardinal... We warn the Cardinal that whatever attempts you made to turn Jharkhand into a Christian republic are in the past. Soma is telling you: mend your ways now. For as long as you exploited us—trying to destroy our customs, worship practices, and heritage in every way—we will expose all your misdeeds.
From your biggest figures like former minister Bandhu Tirkey to church workers, we are exposing everyone, and through this press conference, we sound a clear warning.
If by mistake you plant the Karam branch inside the church, we will not protest on that exact day.
Let me make it clear: we are peaceful people. And since you are a Cardinal and this government favors you, whatever you ask of the Honorable Chief Minister, he will do.
But on the very next day, with musical instruments, liquor (handia) offerings, drums (dhol-nagara), sacred pots (kalsa), rice (chaur), and vermilion (sindoor), we will march to that church. We will enter. If you lock the gates, right there at the locked entrance we will sacrifice a rooster, offer handia, apply vermilion and sacred rice, sprinkle it all around the perimeter, and declare that church a Dhumkuria (traditional Oraon youth dormitory).
So consider this a warning: if you want to heed it, wake up. If you want to reform, reform now. Otherwise, go ahead and celebrate it in your prominent churches this time. If we do not sacrifice a rooster the next day and declare it a Dhumkuria, my name is not Soma Oraon!
Whatever you did to mislead the tribal and indigenous people in the past will no longer work. Your intention of turning Jharkhand into a Christian republic is finished.
That is why I state in many interviews that if tribal and indigenous communities have any primary adversary in Jharkhand, India, or the world, it is Christian missionaries. I don't just have one piece of evidence—I have thousands of documents to prove it.
So beware... My senior colleagues have covered everything. My core point is: stop instigating tribes, converting them, and trying to build a Christian state.
If you have become Christian, then follow Christian rituals and the Indian Christian Marriage Act of 1872. Nobody is stopping you. But will you take ST reservations, minority benefits, foreign reservations, and FCRA funding all for yourselves while we are left with nothing?
We are educated now, we understand everything, and we are studying all of this closely. So consider yourselves warned!"

In 2011, Jaish e Mohammed terrorist Muneer-ul Hassan Quadri came from Pakistan to India via Nepal with his family and 'surrendered'
Then J&K CM gave the terrorist a financial 'rehabilitation package' to start a new life. Instead, he with other local terrorists like Ashiq Baba helped more Pakistani JeM terrorists to infiltrate across our border...
Three of them carried out the Nagrota Terror Attack on November 29th 2016, killed 4 unarmed sleeping soldiers before dawn and entered residential buildings with families trapped inside...
My brave son Akshay led the Quick Response Team. Brave soldiers fought to stop the evil terrorists take innocents as hostages and 3 more Bravehearts sacrificed their lives.
All 3 terrorists were killed and innocents including women and infants were safely rescued. Govt giving terrorists 'rehabilitation packages' has thankfully been stopped.

🚨 This is very serious from Nagpur.
Last year a Hindu girl was caught in a hotel room with a Muslim Naxali from Kerala. She was a student of Symbiosis law School Nagpur. At that time some students told me a professor from the college grooms Hindu girls politically, sexually & religiously and gets them introduced to such terrorists.
Today the same professor was caught grooming another Hindu girl by the girl's father. When questioned by the father, the Muslim professor attacked him. The messages were sexual but also about doing Namaz etc. Students alleged this is happening at an industrial scale and marks / leadership is used as a lure.
Will Symbiosis clear up these allegations and provide comfort to Hindu students that they are safe???
Ps - The picture is of a popular professor from Symbiosis used to appreciate his scholarship. It has nothing to do with the discussed case.

In 2005 Government of India issued unchecked visas to 3000 Pakistanis to watch India vs Pakistan cricket series, one such visa was issued to Sajid Mir who later carried out 2008 26/11 Mumbai terror attack.
In 2010 just two years after 26/11 Mumbai attacks Govt of India returned 25 Pakistan terrorists as a goodwill gesture to Pakistan, not a single Indian prisoner was returned in exchange by Pakistan. One of the terrorists released was shahid latif who was later designated as the main handler of Pathankot terror attack of 2016 in which our seven security personnel were killed.

In March 2024, Tamil Nadu’s DMK government introduced a policy allowing new converts to Islam to become members of any one of seven notified Muslim Backward Classes for quota benefits
Today the Supreme Court struck down the policy, upholding the Madras High Court order
The policy was simply ridiculous. It allowed Hindus to change their caste category through religious conversion
As if extending caste quota benefits to Muslims and Christians is not absurd enough, the state was allowing fresh converts to choose a caste among Muslims and Christians!
What a mockery of so-called 'affirmative action for historically oppressed communities'

At a fancy dress competition held at one Christ school in Guna, Madhya Pradesh, a primary class student appeared with two banners attached to her dress
One banner said - ‘democracy has been expelled from school because it asked questions’
Another banner said -
‘School of the government:
Unemployment - Present, Sir
Hatred - Present, Sir
Corruption - Present, Sir
Terrorism - Present, Sir
Inflation - Present, Sir
Poverty - Present, Sir
Democracy - Absent, Sir’
Why are kids increasingly being used as vehicles for political narratives? Who approved this fancy dress performance? What impression it would leave on the child?

Big GST change this month that got less noise than it deserves: tax officers have lost their arrest powers, and the bar for criminal prosecution jumps from 1 crore to 5 crore. For a mid-sized business that's not a tweak, it's the difference between a dispute and a cell. The arrest threat was built for the biggest frauds and ended up hanging over ordinary traders instead. A tool that aggressive should never have been pointed at the mid-market in the first place. The open question is whether the genuinely large evaders now just got more room to run.

Will he bow to this public humiliation?

Over 80 percent indigenous content on INS Mangrol, commissioned today. That line goes on every launch now and eyes glaze over. The part worth staying awake for is the hull steel. DMR-249A, the special grade that takes a hit without shattering, we used to import, mostly from Russia. DRDO's metallurgy lab cracked the recipe and handed it to SAIL this year, and SAIL has since rolled thousands of tonnes for a whole line of warships. The sonar (Abhay) and the torpedo decoy (Maareech) are DRDO too. So the indigenous number isn't a screwdriver figure, where you import the hard bits and bolt them together here. It goes down into the metal and the sensors, the genuinely difficult layer. That's the Make in India story that never photographs well and matters most.
