Hopefully Heap has full control right now over that. It's Election Day when the supervisors have control that we really have to worry about.

Meet Adriana Melgoza, Founder of the Salinas Rabid Responders
At an ACLU awards dinner in April, Adriana Melgoza was honored as the founder of the Solidarity Network, Monterey County's rapid response operation against ICE. She runs the Watsonville Law Center, which brought in $963K in 2023 and is on California's list of state-funded immigration legal services grantees.
On Monday her network sent more than 20 volunteers to the Monterey County Jail in Salinas while ICE agents were outside. By the time the agents pulled out, rocks were flying at their vehicles.
Listen to her brag about it. When a family member was detained by ICE, she says, they were "more afraid of me than the ICE agents," because "Adriana told me not to sign anything." They refused to sign their voluntary departure, and she says that's what saved them from deportation.
This isn't a neighborhood watch. It's a publicly funded operation built to stop federal immigration enforcement.
I hope @HSI_HQ and @FBI are keeping close tabs on this woman.
Monterey County Told ICE to Leave Its Own Jail
Federal agents showed up at the Monterey County Jail in Salinas for a targeted operation. County officials told them to leave. When the agents refused, the sheriff locked the whole jail down instead of cooperating.
According to KSBW, the agents were stationed behind the jail on Tuesday. An agent on camera called it a targeted operation involving people at the jail.
A small crowd of Loudmouth Lupes showed up to yell at the agents to leave, and some of them were shouting profanities. The agents held their ground.
The sheriff's response was to suspend new bookings, stop inmate releases and close public visitation. The sheriff says the office was not notified and cited SB 54, California's sanctuary law, which limits how much local law enforcement can work with ICE.
In September, Monterey County supervisors adopted a policy that bars ICE from using county property as a staging area. It has exceptions for judicial warrants and criminal enforcement.
So a county would rather shut down its own jail than let federal immigration agents do their jobs on its grounds. Who does that protect?
Should counties that lock down jails to block ICE lose their federal funding?

Watch as a crowd of anchor babies surrounds ICE vehicles outside the Monterey County Jail in Salinas, California, waving Mexican flags in the faces of federal agents.
This might as well be Tijuana. It's an American jail on American soil, and the flag going up at US agents belongs to another country.
Sheriff Tina Nieto locked the jail down rather than work with ICE. Agitators swarmed the agents, and by the time they pulled out, rocks were flying at their vehicles.
Salinas politicians call this a community standing up. It looks a lot more like a border town that forgot which side of the border it's on.

A retired military veteran fights back tears in Lubbock, Texas, as he explains why keeping the Lone Star State red means so much to him.

🛑 Feds Swear Under Oath: Not One of LA County's "U.S.-Born" Sample Voters Was Born Here 🛑
LA County told the court that 38.9% of its sample of suspected noncitizen voters claimed they were born in the United States. Now a federal official has sworn under oath that the records say otherwise.
Nicolas Bartell, an associate director in USCIS fraud detection, filed a sworn declaration on October 26 in United States v. State of California. He says USCIS checked the matches from the county's 200-name sample, and none of them were born in the U.S., according to agency records. On a second review, 4 might have some claim to citizenship, but not by birth here, and 1 is dead.
The DHS list of suspected noncitizens on California's rolls holds about 20,930 names. USCIS also found 51 people on that list whom California's voter rolls show as born in the U.S.
DOJ wants those ballots set aside before the midterms. The 9th Circuit just turned down the emergency bid, so the fight goes back to the district court one week before Election Day.
If federal records show none of these voters were born here, why is California fighting so hard to count their ballots?

🛑 Monterey County Sheriff Told Lawmakers to Change the Law. Yesterday She Locked ICE Out of Her Jail. 🛑
In January, Monterey County Sheriff Tina Nieto stood before the Board of Supervisors to explain why her jail handed 21 inmates over to ICE in 2025. That was up from 11 in 2024 and just 3 in 2023.
ICE asked for 295 inmates that year. The county says it turned down about 90 percent of those requests. Thirteen of the 21 who were handed over had convictions.
Residents packed the meeting demanding she cut off ICE completely. Nieto said the numbers had nothing to do with cooperating more and blamed it on "the trends that we're seeing on people arrested."
Then she put it back on the politicians: "I just want to encourage our legislators that if they want to change the requirements, that they change the legislation."
In other words, the sheriff told the lawmakers the only thing standing between ICE and her jail was the law, and they could change it. The supervisors banned ICE from staging on county property in a 5-0 vote on September 29.
Yesterday, with ICE agents outside her jail in Salinas, her office locked it down. It stopped all bookings and releases and shut out visitors while agitators surrounded the agents. Some in the crowd threw rocks at federal vehicles as they left.
What do you think should happen to county jails that refuse to honor ICE detainers?
