The new Pick Pocket… the F-U pick, F-ME pick, and the reaper turners in a high quality leather case. In retrospect, we probably should’ve called it the folding utility set (F-US). 😋

It's impossible not to be impressed with Columbus when you know what it took to lead those 4 voyages
Whatever crimes he committed were not unusual for the time. To hold anything he did as uniquely evil can only come from historical ignorance

i want to kill the captain. what. is that how they're ending this? i was feeling really moved by the pointlessness of war and worrying about my boys and then THAT?
do men like this? maybe they deserve to go to war
i wanted to kill the captain 45 minutes in and nothing changed my opinion afterward.
is this fun for you people?
this movie wholly cured me of the former tomboy urge to get along with the boys

I will not be tolerating criticism from the people that sleep under the blanket of civilization that Captain Aubrey provides and then criticizes the manner in which he provides it.

There's a reason superstition is so common in the IT world. Most of the world's critical systems run on "if it still works, don't fuck with it" because they're using legacy software and ancient programming languages that virtually no one alive today understands. They're all dealing with black boxes and massive distributed systems where no one can see everything at once. Many fixes are found through trial-and-error and just praying they don't make it worse, and when they do find a fix, they don't know how or why it works, they just know that it does and it becomes almost like a ritual when they have to implement it.

Assuming this is a criticism of the "yellow paint" complaint, while technically correct, it's missing context.
Super Mario 64 (as well as Ocarina of Time) did indeed have "yellow paint", but those games were made during a time where the medium was making a major shift, and thus devs couldn't be certain how gamers, who were mostly kids at the time, would respond.
Going from 2D to 3D, you're not gonna instinctively know what all is possible and what things to try out, especially if you're a kid.
Not saying the paint was absolutely necessary, nor that gamers at the time would never have figured things out without the paint, but it was more reasonable back then to doubt their abilities.
The point is, the paint was still for people who wanted to play the game and face a challenge.
Modern gaming has long since navigated away from being mostly for kids, and has been in a 3D space for so long that immersion breaking railroading is an insult today, meant for those who just want to move from dopamine hit to dopamine hit with minimum challenge, if any.
Also, following the yellow paint in Mario 64 isn't the only criteria to getting to the goal of the level; it's more of a suggestion or informing of a possibility than a straight up direction necessary to proceed.
Also also, something bad is more forgivable and even outright ignorable if done in a small enough dose.
Also also also, mistakes/bad decisions made earlier in a medium's lifetime are more excusable than when they're made later.
