founder @ Untold Intelligence, a robot intelligence research lab

People know me as “the AR navigation guy”. But this year I’ve been working on something new, which I hope will make all of my past work a footnote. This is my new research lab: Untold Intelligence. I’m exploring ways to make robots more intelligent and useful. If we can invent robots with general intelligence, that will lead to a world of abundance, with untold opportunity. untoldlabs.ai

these days, wework is pretty much all NPCs. the mac:pc ratio is not ratioing.
Replying to @AndrewHart
I thought all weworks was sales bros doing calls and/or playing ping pong loudly?

If I ran a coworking space, I would have a hard rule: no calls in the open workspace. It's creeped in as a social norm, especially at WeWork in London, where it's now impossible to focus. People sit on meetings, sales/recruitment calls, projecting their voice all day every day.

The tech bloggers who attended the HomeView event have suddenly gone very quiet on the iPhone Duo, released next week. Almost like they were all handed one and are now under embargo 😉

the base of this lamp is an interesting shape

(to spell out the obvious...) unlike the iMac G4... this time, all of the compute is in the screen, same as an iPad or any other device. this time, the base is to house the powerful speaker system and make it sound great

I often think of the Jony Ive quote that the form of an object communicates its function. Rounded rectangle screen communicates "this is a simple device and can handle easy, non-complicated tasks" for Apple.

Apple HomeView is, curiously, the same price with or without the base. John Ternus has never forgotten being marched out to announce the $1000 stand for Mac Pro.

this looks like a cool design
Google just announced the Fitbit Edge. The $180 wearable sits between a Fitbit Air and Pixel Watch 5. You could also consider a successor to the Fitbit Charge 6. Pre-orders start today. Available on 10/27. It has a 1.34" OLED screen, but not any built-in mics or speakers so you can't take calls on it. But you can see the time, notifications from your phone, send quick replies, get GPS map routes, and other basic stuff like music controls • 11.5mm thick • 64MB of storage • 7 days of battery life • Uses same charger as Fitbit Air • IP68 water and dust resistant • Google says it's 45% lighter than an Apple Watch Series 12 Comes in four colors (Fog, Canyon, Olive, and Obsidian). Stephen Curry special edition will have the same sweat-wicking orange/rye band as Fitbit Air/Pixel Watch 5 special editions. It'll also cost extra at $220. Easily switch between a Fitbit Air, Fitbit Edge, and Pixel Watch 5 for sleep, health, and fitness tracking. All three sync to the Google Health app Read my write-up: gizmodo.com/google-fitbit-ed…

when hiring, I take the stack of CVs, pick up half of them and drop them in the trash. I don’t hire unlucky people.
it's controversial, but in every interview, i ask candidates if they know anything about anything if they start to get a little too specific, instant rejection you need to hire generalists

hypothetically, if you were going to buy a humanoid for testing, which one would you buy?

I controlled a 2m tall HUMANOID using a playstation controller. The startup is literally called Humanoid — and they gave me a full tour of their office in London, and then let me control one! So far they’ve raised $150m to compete with Tesla, Figure and 1X.

Steve Jobs would’ve given the Vision Pro the “fish tank bubble test”.
If Steve Jobs was CEO during Vision Pro's development, I think he would have approved VisionOS for launch. But not the headset. He'd have reasoned that “Pro” can justify price, but it can't justify weight.
