Canadians can’t afford rent. Food bank use is at a record high. Wages are stagnant while the rich are getting richer than ever before. Of all the people who could use this kind of federal support right now, venture capitalists are at the bottom of that list.

If the first Toronto mayor to seriously fix the city's finances is also the first incumbent to lose reelection, this city will be doomed to austerity and crumbling infrastructure for decades.

Brad Bradford wants to hand over our drinking water to Doug Ford — so it can be privatized. This isn’t for you, it’s for Brad’s investor friends. This will drive up your water bill and make our drinking water less safe. I will never privatize our water.

According to Ontario's Financial Accountability Office, Doug Ford's plan to put alcohol sales into stores cost taxpayers $612 million for the early rollout alone, and up to $1.4 billion in total by 2030!! $47M for health care! Let that sink in!
Our government is fighting to cut emergency room wait times so people can get the emergency care they need faster. Today, Ontario launched our Emergency Department Action Team with a $47 million investment and a mandate to identify and tackle common delays, improve patient flow and apply these lessons to lower wait times across the province. My @TorontoStar column: Brad Bradford and Chris Alexander talk about Toronto's budget like it's some mystery we need outside experts to solve. But the mayor's spending record is all public, and tells a simple story of priorities. No mystery. Just math. thestar.com/opinion/contribu…

The number’s don’t lie: Doug Ford’s privatisation scheme is a failure. Patients are waiting longer for cancer surgeries, MRIs, and more — while over $600M goes to private for profit clinics every year. This isn't how things are supposed to be in Ontario. Your bank account balance should never determine what kind of care you get. We need to put that funding into our public hospitals, and get everyone the care they need, when they need it. cbc.ca/news/canada/toronto/o…

This is a very interesting policy idea: As he campaigns for re-election, Brazil's President Lula da Silva has offered a debt relief program for low-income families. The idea is that the government will buy defaulted debts of up to 10,000 reais (c. $1900 USD) of working-class families. Banks know they probably won't get back most of this debt, because it's in default, so the government will buy it for big discounts of 90+%. Some cynical critics are portraying this as a supposed bailout of banks, but that's not true at all. The government will not pay the face value of the debt, which is of course what the bank would want. (This is what the US government often does in its bailouts, which benefit creditors, not debtors.) Instead, in this proposal, the Brazilian government will hold auctions where creditors sell the defaulted debt with a huge haircut of 90+%. Then, after buying the debt, the Brazilian government will forgive it. At the same time, Lula has also proposed a ban on online gambling websites, which aims to further reduce the growing levels of debt among working-class families.
(+) en Clarín: clar.in/4rAaDLh

Riding from my home in the ravine up the big hill each day to my office in the hydro corridor.
Toronto already has the space to build a connected cycling network, through our ravines and hydro corridors. Let's build it and maintain it year-round. So we can give our residents bike lanes that work and less congestion for drivers. Agree? Sign here: bradford26.ca/petitions/cong…

Bradford’s mayoral run is just a contest for most embarrassing political flip flop award against himself spacing.ca/toronto/2020/06/0…
Bike lanes should work for cyclists, for drivers and for businesses. Let’s fix what isn’t working and build a safer, better-connected cycling network where it makes sense.

Wow, we've jumped to $43,610! The $5K in matching funds was raised in the last four days, meaning it unlocked another $5K. Thank you! It's now the final stretch to $50,000. If you haven't donated to our legal defence yet, now's the time. Head to: thegrindmag.ca/support-the-g…
Just passed $40K! There's still $1,500 left of matching funding. So if you make a donation before Sunday at midnight, it'll get doubled. $1,500 in new donations would actually turn into $3K and would jump us to $43K. Can you help make it happen? thegrindmag.ca/support-the-g…

An Ontario wealth tax could raise $20.9 billion a year. That’s enough to fix EVERY school and have $4.1 billion to strengthen health care by hiring 3,500 doctors and other health care workers. That’s just 1 year of wealth tax revenue in 1 province. This is a no-brainer.
