The use of the word “castes” here is very intentional. It is to promote the idea that we live in a post-caste society and trivialise the need for caste census to pursue social justice. Using the word figuratively to mean something completely different helps achieve this.

Absolutely agree! Religion is a personal thing and a colony/ office/ residential societies should not do a public celebration of such events. Cultural celebrations are different from religious ones. Former is inclusive. Diwali, Eid, Christmas etc are culturally celebrated and they bring people together. While religious ones, just exclude. And, in India, currently, this is a very disturbing trend.

This is exactly what we have to do when somebody speaks to us in Hindi instead of English, which is the common language for communication. We need to protect our language by any means and stop the imposition of Hindi on us.
