I'm thinking about cancelling my X account. I really try to engage with people here, but I don't get much engagement back. I don't think it's the platform for me.
I've really pulled out the stops this year on marketing my novels. Yes, the sales have gone up tremendously, but not enough for a liveable wage. And my expenses are off the charts. How do you do it?
If you could influence one person in a positive way to help your writing career, who would it be and why?
I have an active dream life. Sometimes they are like feature films. I almost always remember the dreams upon waking. I hear this is not normal. So my question is, do other writers experience very detailed cinematic dreams?
I am such a pantser. I start with the general idea of what my plot is. I have the first and last portion. The story unfolds as I write. Who else is a pantser?
For once, I am excited to send off my manuscript, The Nature of Dust to my editor. It's already pretty polished. I learned from her work on my last two books to catch many errors in the self edits.
As an Indie author, I also do ARC reads for other Indie authors. Not only to support them, but to widen my exposure to different genres. Do you do ARC reads?
Today the owner of a large British Literary agency contacted me out of the blue because he had seen my work and felt he could take it to a higher level.
Sure. Beware any agent (that you've never queried) reaching out to you with promises of the moon. Scam City
On the AI debate, what if you are using AI to research things like the average temperature of Costa Rico in the summer? Because your book is set in that place and at that time, and you want authenticity. Is that forbidden?
Querying can be so humiliating. I feel like an encyclopedia salesman knocking on doors, only to have them slam in my face. So, when I get a rejection that is kind, lengthy, and encouraging, I have to give thanks. Cole Lanahan from the Seymore agency did just that. Thanks, Cole.
So, I'm querying my fourth novel, The Nature of Dust. Is there any other more frustrating and humbling process of writing a book? My beta readers loved it. My editor loved it. But it's not a fit for agents?
I think I became invisible again. I was enjoying good engagement but the past couple of weeks...crickets. If you see this can you just say hi so I know it's not a glitch
