This is a very understandable sentiment. Showing others as miserable is one of the ways in which yoy feel well about your own life. Its similar to jealousy in the sense instead of feeling hurt from other people's success, you feel good from their misery.

As an African, I have a genuine question for Indians:
WHY DOES CHINA SEEM SO OBSESSED WITH MAKING INDIA LOOK BAD? 😭
If Chinese are filming in Bangladesh and labeling it as New Delhi, what exactly are they trying to achieve?
Is this harmless trolling, anti-India propaganda, or something more organised?
How are Indians challenging these acts?
Isn’t this part of a wider effort to damage India’s international image? Please help me understand the bigger picture 🙏😢

A colleague sends almost 80% of his salary back home. He comes from a village, has 3 older sisters who need to get married and he has to build a pukka house for the family. He manages his monthly expense with just around 50 k. The rest go into his savings
After Yogesh finished high school, his parents insisted that he get a factory job in UEA to pay for his sister's dowry.
He shared a one bedroom apartment with 8 men. On his annual trips to India, he spent over 75% of his salary buying gold for her.
He said he felt "phans gaya" (trapped).
This sense of personal sacrifice and family duty is almost unheard of in Europe and North America.
I appreciate the sentiment, but I have always found this tendency to put India and Pakistan in the same basket somewhat disingenuous.
For all the crap that Muslims have to put up with with in India, there is simply no Pakistani equivalent of a SRK, an Azim Premji or an APJ Kalam.
If ordinary Indians were fundamentally unwilling to accept Muslims as part of their national and cultural identity, it would be difficult to explain why millions of them have been turning up at cinemas to watch Shah Rukh Khan for three decades.
I can vouch that I have heard this comment more than anyone else on this platform.
Was talking to a girl in DM's 2 years ago. She expressed desire to meet me in person to which I replied Inshallah in an obviously joking manner. That convinced her that I was secretly a Muslim pretending to be a hindu, trying to trap her love jihad. That should have been a clue.
I was on call with a guy who is a senior engineer at Apple and makes an ungodly amount of money. I was expecting a very fluent and sophisticated accent from the other end. Instead I heard the strongest Bihari accent one would rarely hear outside a village. This guy will never
Not to play into stereotypes but Trump is more representative of the African American stereotype than any other politician
>children with multiple women
> neglectful father
> convicted criminal
> likes everything gold plated
> worked for a few hours in Mcdonalds and then quit.
I suspect the difference in reception has more to do with the identity categories into which these people are placed than with their actual politics. Islam occupies a far more prominent place in American public discourse than Hinduism, which remains a relatively niche religion.
Zohran is taller, fairer and, more importantly, his name represents a different kind of exoticism to the average American. He is more readily placed in the Muslim category than the Indian one, whereas Vivek is much more immediately recognisable as an Indian Hindu.
