The 4th batch Basic Mariculture course this year, under the Mariculture Skills Development Program officially commenced today at the Maniyafushi Training & Research Facility, with the participation of 12 trainees.
The programme is conducted by the Ministry in collaboration with the Maldives Marine Research Institute (MMRI), with financial support from the Transform Project.
The training combines theoretical knowledge with practical sessions covering key areas of mariculture, including grouper and seaweed cultivation, alongside other essential techniques.
This initiative aims to strengthen technical capacity and equip participants with the knowledge and practical skills required to contribute to the sustainable development and expansion of the Maldives' mariculture sector.

The development of the Agriculture Policy is underway, with data gathering and stakeholder consultations ongoing to shape the future of the agricultural sector.
As part of this process, a policy consultation workshop was held with commercial agricultural island operators to discuss the challenges facing the industry, identify practical solutions, and share recommendations for the way forward.
The workshop facilitated an engaging and fruitful discussion among commercial agricultural island operators, policymakers, and senior ministry officials, fostering constructive dialogue and collaboration towards addressing key industry challenges and developing practical, forward-looking policy recommendations to support the sustainable growth of the sector.
