My vote is the 1981 Wrangler paint scheme - either #2 or #3, it doesn't matter!

Wish I was there, I was supposed to be at the race this weekend but the crew I was supposed to go with slowly fell off one by one until I was the only one left so I decided not to go. Maybe next year.

Officially, he said he was following his car owner’s instructions to stay out on the track. The black flag came out so late in the race I guess Bud decided to gamble and let Dale stay out there and try to win the race and let them sort it out later.

If I remember correctly, Tom was also told not to wear his leather jacket for the photo shoot for this album. The record company didn’t want Tom pigeonholed into just the rock genre based on his looks alone, they wanted to attract a greater audience.
Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers released Damn the Torpedoes 47 years ago today, on October 19, 1979. Getting it out took a fight. When ABC Records was sold to MCA, Tom argued his contract couldn't be handed over without his say, and when MCA sued, he declared bankruptcy to get out of it. It ended with a new deal on Backstreet, an MCA label. Jimmy Iovine co-produced it at Sound City and Cherokee, and it gave them "Refugee," "Don't Do Me Like That" and "Here Comes My Girl." It sat at No. 2 for seven weeks behind Pink Floyd's The Wall. "I love Pink Floyd," Tom said, "but I hated them that year."
