He said it was a video where his face was edited onto "some guy; I think he's a Chinese dictator."
That meme was his face on Mao Zedong.
Chinese brands moved fast.
Dongpeng, Mengniu and Milkground all cut ties with him today for hurting national sentiment.
In the letter, which he released in French, Chinese and English, he said:
"My comment was ill-judged, and I now understand that it hurt many people in China and in Chinese communities around the world. I have deep respect for the Chinese people and their history, and I am sincerely sorry."
LaLiga also had to apologize separately for him.
