You have actually touched on the thinking behind Pennyvest. For me, democratising investment is not simply reducing the amount required to participate. If we give people access to assets they do not understand, or lock them into investments they cannot exit when life happens, we have only solved part of the problem. Take real estate. Beyond the high entry cost, one of its biggest limitations is liquidity. You can own a ₦100m property and still have a liquidity problem because you cannot sell ₦5m worth of your house when you need ₦5m. So the thinking is not only to make real estate accessible in smaller units, but ultimately to create a marketplace where those interests can change hands. That does not remove the underlying risks of real estate, but it can significantly improve the liquidity experience. Private debt is different. Making it accessible in smaller units does not make the borrower less risky. Credit quality, security, tenor and underwriting still matter. This is why we believe different assets cannot simply be put on a shelf and presented to everyone in the same way. Risk appetite, investment knowledge, liquidity needs and tenor should help determine what is suitable for each person. And I completely agree with your last point. A lot of Nigerians still think T-bills, bonds, real estate and other quality assets are only accessible to institutions or people with significant capital. That is what we are trying to change with Pennyvest. For us, democratising investment means democratising access, understanding and, where possible, liquidity. Not just reducing the minimum entry amount.

Your income should do more than just get you through the month. At PayBridge, we believe in giving employees more ways to make their income work for them. From accessing part of their earned salary when they need it to exploring opportunities to save, invest and learn.

We have spent so much time teaching people how to earn money, yet very little time teaching them how to make money work for them. And I think that is part of the problem. A person can earn a decent salary for 30 years and still retire with very little to show for it. Perhaps we need to rethink what we teach people about money. Earning is important, but what happens to what we earn is just as important. #pennyvest #moneyinmotion

I have always believed that the ability to dream, build and own wealth should not be determined by the size of one's pocket or the circumstances of one's birth. Why shouldn't the son of a civil servant or the daughter of a teacher have the opportunity to own assets that would ordinarily be beyond their reach? Why should the opportunity to participate in certain investments be reserved for only those who can afford the high entry requirements? These are some of the questions that gave birth to Pennyvest. And for me, it goes beyond providing access to investments. We have to take financial knowledge and opportunities to the last mile. People need to understand what opportunities exist, how they work and how they can participate in building wealth. I also believe there is enormous power in what ordinary people can achieve when they bring their resources together. Imagine people coming together to fund a business, support a promising idea or make a development project possible. Someone gets the opportunity to build a business, while others get the opportunity to participate in the value being created. That is the thinking behind Pennyvest. Not just helping people invest, but making it possible for more people to own, build wealth and support the dreams of others. October 23 is only the beginning. There is still a lot to build, a lot to learn and a lot of people we hope to reach. And I am looking forward to the journey.
