🏟️ Lira, Uganda is about to have something special!
The Akii-Bua Olympic Stadium is now 85% complete.
Handover is set for 2 January 2027, just in time for AFCON 2027. 🇺🇬
Quick facts:
👉 Built by Egypt's SAMCO for Ug Shs470bn (about $129 million)
👉Foundation stone laid by President Museveni and the First Lady in January 2025, with a 20-month build plan
👉Among facilities being prepared for 2027 AFCON to be co-hosted by Uganda, Kenya & Tanzania.
👉 Parking for 1,000 vehicles
👉 It has a 2,000-seat indoor arena, a 25m swimming pool, an athletics track and outdoor courts for basketball, netball and volleyball
👉 Named after John Akii-Bua, Uganda's first Olympic gold medallist (400m hurdles, Munich 1972, world record)
This is more than a stadium. It means jobs, talent for our youth and a big boost for business in Lango and Northern Uganda.
Lira is ready to host the world. Hotels, restaurants and boda boda guys, this is your time to shine! 💪
What are you most excited about in regard to this project?
As a photographer, I saw heart, passion & a stadium full of pride. We faced Africa's giants and stood tall.
Heads up Royals, Bunyoro is proud. The journey continues 💚👑

As the drone pilot who captured this, I can confirm Hoima City Stadium is world-class from the sky. Both Talanta and Hoima are great for East Africa, but Hoima is truly a beauty. AFCON 2027 we are ready! 🇺🇬🇰🇪

Still buzzing from the Human Firewall Run 2026 in Jinja!
What an exciting and impactful engagement it was on Saturday! Beyond the run, it was an opportunity to connect, learn, inspire and explore new possibilities!
With UICT's newly approved National Technician Diploma in Cybersecurity and Forensics, the event couldn't have been more timely!
Our students participating in the @UCC_Official Cyber Competition had an incredible opportunity to receive mentorship from @NITAUganda1 & @ciocxo_dlf and interact with fellow students from @NFSU_Official , exchanging ideas and building valuable connections.
And this is just the beginning! We look forward to translating these engagements into meaningful collaborations in #CyberSecurity , digital forensics, innovation and practical skills development.
A huge thank you to @NFSU_Official for hosting this remarkable initiative and to Team UICT for representing the Institute with enthusiasm and pride!
