Protesters rallied outside São Paulo's city hall on Wednesday to demand the removal of Mayor Ricardo Nunes, amidst allegations he tried to use his power to sway Brazil's presidential elections in favor of far-right candidate Flávio Bolsonaro. Though Flávio Bolsonaro lost Sunday's runoff, calls are growing for him to be held accountable for his campaign after he fled the country in defiance of a supreme court order while facing investigations into alleged money laundering. Koran Irvine, a Black father of two and Con Edison worker, was killed by retired NYPD officer Victor Romero in an apparent road rage shooting last week. Irvine was on his way home to his family on the George Washington Bridge. On Tuesday, members of UWUA Local 1-2, Irvine's union, held a rally with members of his family demanding answers from the city representatives – who they still have not heard from. At his indictment earlier that day, Romero's charges were upgraded to second-degree murder from manslaughter. Despite these charges, he is currently walking free after posting a $1 million bail. On Tuesday Illinois voters from Peoria to the Chicago suburbs will decide whether the state should repeal a 2015 anti-BDS law that bars public employee pension funds from investing in companies that boycott Israel. Nearly 40 states have adopted similar laws, executive orders or resolutions following Illinois's example. Organizers across the state forced the question onto this year's ballot in eight townships and municipalities, after a repeal bill stalled in the state legislature. They say that while the vote is non-binding, the results could become a model for challenging anti-BDS laws nationwide.
