A U.S. congressman wants to change how we legally “own” video games. Rep. Ritchie Torres has announced plans to introduce the Power To The Players Act, a bill that would direct the FTC to create rules protecting consumers who buy video games. The proposal would give players three basic rights: >The right to own the games they purchase, rather than simply receiving a revocable license >The right to keep playing games after online servers are shut down, through an offline mode >The right to transfer or resell games they own Torres argues that if a company can take a game away simply by shutting down its servers, then the consumer didn’t really buy the game in the first place. Torres also hopes the legislation could eventually establish a precedent for ownership rights across other parts of the digital economy: “If you pay for it, you own it.”

The Phantom Thieves have a message for @PlayStation CEO Hideaki Nishino : To Hideaki Nishino, President & CEO, Sony Interactive Entertainment You seek to steal the freedom of choice from players by pushing a future where games exist only in the digital world. You believe ownership is unnecessary, and that memories can be locked behind licenses and servers. That distortion will not go unchallenged. We will steal the Treasure that fuels your greed and return the power of choice to the players. Prepare yourself. We are coming. From, The Phantom Thieves of Hearts

Valve says the global memory shortage isn’t improving, warning that RAM and SSD prices are likely to keep rising. “There’s no light at the end of the tunnel, honestly. It’s still getting worse.” Valve says memory manufacturers are focusing on high-end chips for AI servers, leaving less supply for consumer hardware. “Things that were commodity items a year or two ago… now you have to negotiate really hard just to secure a few thousand. And there are so many more people in line in front of you.” Valve sees no improvement anytime soon.

We’ve literally had people tell us to CANCEL our digital release and do physical only. IDK if people realise that we are just 2 people and this is our first game. We’d LOVE to do physical & we support physical ownership but our game kinda has to do well digitally first 🤷
An indie developer was disappointed to find their PS5 game's trailer flooded with anti-Sony comments over its decision to stop making discs. Teeto's trailer is one of many on the PlayStation YouTube channel getting downvotes and angry comments. vgc.news/news/indie-develope…

Xbox could grab an easy W today: Just commit to physical games. Put a disc in the box AND a digital code. Collectors win. Digital players win. Xbox wins.

‼️A FRIENDLY REMINDER‼️ The “85% purchases are digital” figure is a complete LIE. They include figures like mobile games, small games without a physical release, and even *DLC* into that number. People buy physical, but they want you to feel small and powerless. DON’T LET THEM
People regurgitating that "90% of video game sales are digital" shit is disheartening They really just fudged the numbers and everyone believed it despite plenty of evidence to the contrary

Did a little research into this "85% of games bought on Playstation are digital". So I decided to look at the EXACT wording of what that meant. Spoiler: Its not "Out of 100 copies of Spiderman sold, 85% are digital" Here's how they calculate it. Digital Units sold, Divided by Total Units sold, times 100. Straight forward right? In Q4 of 2025, sony sold 74.6 million units in total, that is both Digital and Physical units. But the "85% of all games bought are digital" has a HUGE skew to it. Why? Because there are THOUSANDS of DIGITAL only games that do not get a PHYSICAL release. Think the 5$-20$ indie titles or digital only ports of older games. However, those digital sales are counted AGAINST the physical sales. Meaning? Even if EVERYONE who stopped buying Physical in the past 5 years, went out and bought one game a month? Digital will still dominate physical because (mostly) everything thats physical is also digital, but very little that is digital is also physical. The Comparison is not fair and when its thrown around on social media its literally framed in a way for the stat to prove how dominant Digital sales are while excluding a number of factors. Doing so would be like comparing Your local Wal-Mart's stock to Amazon. Not only that, but there are many digital only sales that are held that puts STEEP discounts on games that in-store simply cannot do. Of course there are some games that are on sale in-store that are not on sale digitally, but those digitally only games ALSO go on sale which the retailer has Zero access to because its digital only. There's also digital incentives where buying the game digitally grants you more content vs buying it in store, driving more sales. Then, there are some games that release digitally, and then have a physical release MONTHS later; or, allow you to play the game a few days early. If you wanted a more fair comparison? It would be "Digital media with a simultaneous Physical Release vs The Physical Release" Having this stat would reveal the true number. But even THAT number is missing details because that also doesn't include people buying the game second hand/Used from GameStop. However, while Im sure that stat would STILL benefit digital sales, I would suggest and conclude that it wouldn't be "85%" as many people are suggesting. Sources: sony.com/en/SonyInfo/IR/libr…

Refuting dumb arguments against physical games🚀 🗣️“85% of players buy digital” ✅15% or even 5% in this industry is still millions of people bringing in hundreds of millions of not billions o revenue 🗣️“Netflix and Spotify ended movie and music Blu-Rays and CDs” ✅Movies are still being sold on Blu-Ray and 4K UHD Blu-Rays, and music is still released on CDs, vinyl records and even collectible cassette tapes that actually work, despite being far smaller and less demanding than video games which can go over 100GB 🗣️“I haven’t bought a physical game for 10 years! It’s obsolete” ✅Your experience with games does not automatically reflect everyone else’s. If you don’t care, don’t get in the way 🗣️“It’s expensive to make games on disc” ✅Games won’t be cheaper when man all digital. You will pay the same price for a glorified rental that can be taken any time due to licensing agreements or account loss/suspension 🗣️“You’re too broke, you want to buy second hand and resell games” ✅Being a bootlicker to corporations that don’t know you exist, does not make you any less broke than those you accuse and posture in front of behind a keyboard Physical games should always be an option. Video games are far more than just a file to download or “access” to gain. They hold sentimental value to players and collectors. Raise your voices, players, game makers, gaming and memorabilia stores. Let us overturn this predatory decision! Video games are an art form, not just a business and the value players hold for them should be honored and not reduced to a code to redeem and a download to revoke😎
