The key to a great budget is NOT what software/spreadsheet/program you use. It's how you communicate about money (either with yourself or with others). Let's work through a good budget meeting.
I just arrived back in the basement from seeing this film. Incredible cinema. I didn't really care about Elizabeth Holmes and Theranos before watching, and afterward I still don't care...but this is great cinema.
Going live right now with Stacking Adventures over on YouTube! Talking to Becky Scarcello about her family's trip to Scandinavia. Floating sauna? Fjords? I'm in!
What are you chasing, for real?
Many of us say we're chasing money, but what we're really chasing is the economic idea "utility." In short, "I want a functional life that serves me."
What does this mean?
- money alone won't make you happier
- goals will make you happy, but only if they're actually attainable (usually, but not always, with money)
- the pursuit of money is like chasing the horizon. You're never going to find satisfaction.
- the pursuit of goals can in itself be enjoyable, and make that next investment enjoyable as well.
You may know how proud we are of our AI friend in Mom's basement, Scout (who helps you ask direct questions of our guides). Now she's in our Field Kit budgeting and net worth tool!
That guy is SO dreamy.
Great news! Joe Saul-Sehy is joining us in Salt Lake City as an Opening Day All Hands speaker at MilMoneyCon27.

Anyone riding a wave, whether it's "red" or "blue," is thinking about politics like it's some type of sports contest, and not our lives.
Still, let's go with your "go sports team, go!" analogy.
If I'm picking an "all star team," would I pick every player on the Dallas Cowboys? Even if they weren't horrible this year, the answer is a resounding "hell, no." Why would I want the worst of "my favorite team" if I truly want great government?
I'll save my team affiliation for football fields, instead of the ballot box. I'm not, and will never be, a supporter of X candidate.
I'm a supporter of ideas and if you've been in power, whether I've seen progress toward that brighter future you promised.
You're grinding 60-hour weeks to max out a retirement account you've never defined a purpose for.
Ask yourself: if you had unlimited money, would you still be working 60 hours? Almost nobody says yes.
So what are you actually solving for? Most people have no idea. They're optimizing the spreadsheet without knowing what the spreadsheet is for.
Why does Reddit’s bot admin in the PF sub recommend Robinhood as their #1 brokerage choice? Gross.
I found credit card reward points confusing until I found out 3 things:
1) The 1st game is "avoid interest." Cha-ching! to the tune of avoiding 28% interest.
2) 2% cash back is the standard "you're winning" benchmark. Judge point redemptions against this #.
3) Card perks only matter if you were going to use them anyway. Trial subs & dining credits where you'd never eat? Huge waste of $$$.
Kids coming home at 3 in the afternoon by themselves helps nobody. An obvious answer - why not just start school later (and I'm glad that @SenTomCotton is jumping in and helping solve the BIG problems, and not little ones like diesel fuel or Iran).
My first thought was, "Surely he's not talking about me," when I read "smart, attractive bald men."
Even smart, attractive bald men make mistakes.
Ex-Lehman trader @dailydirtnap on what Scott Galloway's 2016 sell-off proves:
"He sold all his stocks after the election in 2016. He thought Trump was going to crash the stock market, and then he had to buy them 40% higher."
"Just shut up and hold it... Don't trade around it like you're not smarter than the market."

I was already financially independent when I started meal planning...but WOW did it make a difference. Our food budget is down a full 30% and our food waste has cratered.
Eating what's in the fridge pays off with a thicker wallet.
People who spend their time over optimizing how every dollar is saved have far less than people who optimize their income streams.
I dislike the name "Obamacare" because it immediately politicized the nation's attempt to get spending under control. Nice try, but a swing and a miss, partly because the name divided people as if we were at a football game.
I loathe "Trump Account" for the same reason. Congrats to the 60M children automatically enrolled today. (Remember, just because your child has an account does NOT mean you'll receive the $1,000...that's a separate action, parents).
1000x they will not (and this isn't the first time @AffordAnything and I have disagreed). If the perception is that you don't need a budgeting aggregator to facilitate the conversation so you have a CLUE what to ask AI...then yes. Two different functions (and one of them sucks at their job).
