In a multicenter analysis of 1,902 patients with low-grade (AAST Grade I/II) colon injuries, combination preoperative antibiotic prophylaxis was associated with a 63% reduction in the odds of organ space infection compared with a single antibiotic (OR 0.37, 95% CI 0.20–0.66). These findings suggest combination prophylaxis may improve outcomes in patients with low-grade colon trauma.

Today, I delivered the Mattox Lecture in the Michael E. DeBakey @BCM_Surgery named after a son of Lebanese immigrants who became the greatest ❤️ surgeon in the world.
Today another Lebanese son stood at that podium.
A pinnacle moment in any trauma surgeon's career and today it was mine🙏
@kmattox1 Thank you for making us all better.

Residency doesn’t get any better than this. What a privilege to spend the last month operating with two truly amazing humans (who I’m fortunate to call my best friend @SophWPerez & my mentor @DerekErstad)
Returning from research years has been intimidating, uncomfortable, and humbling but bad days don’t exist when you operate with your best-friend-turned-Chief and your mentor 🙌
As we head into @BCMGSRes’s first interview day tomorrow, I know I picked the right place to call home
