There really is a sector of the church for whom the most recent Barna study is the 67th book in the canon. So much focus is put on “retaining membership by engagement.” The Bible placed the burden on each member.
Pastors are shepherds, not HR managers.

Be careful what you state as fact to people: 1) if they trust you they will make what you say a part of their life 2) if you’re wrong they will still operate as if you were right 3) humility gets you to a more accurate picture of a person than spouting off in the moment ever will
We can spend so much time enamored with men and their accomplishments, their ministries and their words that we forget the perfect example Jesus set as the foundation of those accomplishments, ministries and words.

While going over my notes for this morning’s message I was acutely reminded that it is a tragedy, and a sin against God and our people, when we take a passage out of its biblical context to make it say what we want it to say.

Definitely agree. If we don’t teach the OT and point to Jesus then the people we teach miss out in 80% of what the Bible has to say and the very writings the NT writers looked to.
