Unpopular opinion: A major reason people like Modi, is that he makes their bigotry feel like patriotism, their hatred feels like courage, and their lack of civic sense feels like nationalism.
He didn’t create the ugliness in them; he just made it socially acceptable to flaunt it.

Torrent donated Rs 137 crore to #BJP through electoral bonds.
The same #Torrent group was provided tax exemption of Rs 285 crores in the past by the BJP-Shiv Sena government headed by Devendra Fadnavis. In May 2019, the Torrent Power was given exemption from paying Rs 285 crore in property tax, including interest and penalties, to the Bhiwandi-Nizampur Municipal Corporation.
Torrent is in news again, this time, over its pumped-storage project in #Karjat , Maharashtra, which has sparked a controversy over the felling of thousands of trees. n/n

Dear Mrs. Sitarama,
1.Which "legal and commercial matter" required Tata Trusts and Tata Sons to be hosted at Amit Shah's residence?
2.When is crony number 1 going to appear in the game and which pieces of Tata is he going to get?
Finally, all India's businesses except 3-4 of your cronies, already hate all of you and don't need any incitement.
Being the LoP @RahulGandhi, I suggest you refrain from politicising every issue. Also, casually labelling commercial and legal matters as criminal is unacceptable.
You have repeatedly decried the successes of Indian industry & our entrepreneurs. Now, are you trying to incite our business leaders to join you in spreading distrust & toxicity?
For decades, your party had smothered the spirit of the Indian entrepreneurs under the stifling ‘Licence-Quota Raj’ & inflicted poverty on crores of Indians.
On the other hand, our government led by PM @narendramodi values the Indian industry as job creators & drivers of economic growth. Our policies have been tailored to enable enterprise, support industry and encourage investment.
Political parties, leaders, governments and institutions share an equal responsibility to support our industry, strengthen our farmers and secure the future of our youth.
Therefore, it is essential to engage constructively rather than casting baseless aspersions to suit your narrow political motives.
The Constitution of India ensures justice to all its citizens & our Honourable Courts are entrusted with upholding it. History is witness to the shoddy manner in which you, your party and the PMs belonging to your party have demeaned the judiciary.
So Rahul ji, refrain from seeing ghosts everywhere.

We are not going to stop protesting till Gyanesh Kumar resigns.
This is a fight to protect the most sacred thing in this country.
There is nothing that Narendra Modi and Amit Shah can do that will stop us.

Disturbing visuals from Janpath where LoP-LS Rahul Gandhi, Wayanad MP Priyanka Gandhi and other INDIA leaders have been dragged away and arrested once again by the Delhi Police. INDIA janbandhan leaders were simply attempting to reach Jantar Mantar to register their protest against the capture of the electoral system through the CEC. The brutal handling of elected representatives by the police shows the utter contempt of the poisonous pair of PM-HM for our Constitution and democracy.
This is the reality of the We Will Do It proclaimed by the Slogan Sultan today.

Shameful visuals coming in from Delhi.
The entire country is watching this and taking a note of the national embarrassment that the @DelhiPolice has become.

At some stage Narendra Modi will realise that the longer this goes on the more it looks as though he is clinging on to Gyanesh because he needs him to rig elections for him.
His refusal to listen to the protesters has become counter productive

The way the LoP is being treated is shameful. Delhi police has done the impossible- it’s managed to make UP police look like a professional force in comparison!

For those who don't remember, between 2000 to about 2012 we used to compared India to China.
After Modi, we compare India to Pakistan. And that's the Bharat jo Ghar mein Ghuske Marta hai....

Vote chori is a crime against the Indian people and a direct attack on our constitution.
The BJP, RSS and EC who organised it have committed an act of treason.
Justice will be served.

Basically a government that is remains DEAF to what the people want: clean, livable cities, sports facilities, clean food, good education. Not divisive religious crap, changing names of monuments, roads, stations and cities and freedom from corruption. For this we Mumbaikars pay very high real estate rates, taxes, bribes… oops service charges, cess and tolls. What do we get? ARROGANCE!
Neville D’Souza ground reservation changed to convention centre: BMC general body on Tuesday night approved a proposal to change the reservation of the Neville D’Souza Football Ground at Bandra Reclamation from a playground to a convention and exhibition centre. Jantar Mantar protests did a world of good to India and Indians. It empowered students across states. It focussed on education as a need, a demand and a right that should be fought for. Indian students are done waiting. A wave of protests have hit UP, Bihar, Rajasthan, MP, Maharashtra & Jharkhand etc.
In Fatehpur, Uttar Pradesh, about 1,500 students, Classes 6-12, staged a 6-hour sit-in at Sarvodaya Inter College. No fans, no library, no computer lab, unsafe drinking water, broken desks. Officials came calling within a day.
In Gays, Bihar, A government school with a broken hand pump, dead fans, shattered benches. Students protested and refused to speak to a junior official. They demanded the District Magistrate himself show up. He did.
In Jalore, Rajasthan, students locked the gates themselves, demanding teachers for grades 1-3 that simply weren’t there.
In Barmer’s Ramsar school, same story. Kids literally not being taught subjects due to staff shortages.
Across MP, Maharashtra, Jharkhand, Similar walkouts reported. Same core demands echoing across states: functional fans, clean water, hygienic toilets, teachers actually in the classroom.
What Jantar Mantar protests achieved is exceptional. India is discussing education, faculty shortages, unfairness, paper leaks, lack of school infrastructure. None of these demands are unreasonable and the minimum a public school owes a child. The fact it took a viral sit in to get it fixed is the real story.
I only wish this continues. We should continue to bring student issues to the forefront. Empower them with coverage, conversations. This can’t be allowed to fade as a one week news cycle. Keep asking. Keep covering. About vacant teacher posts in your district? What happened to the school infrastructure budget? Tag your local officials.
Don’t let this fade.
Please don’t let it fade.

The Hindutva infrastructure is of poor quality due to high corruption, but it is also devoid of imagination, local connect and good aesthetics. Unlike many other countries, including China.

Consequence: Income taxation has gone from throttlingly progressive (peaking ~1980) to indefensibly regressive now (see excerpts & chart from A SIXTH OF HUMANITY)
So regressive that super rich average tax rate is near zero, well below most taxpayers
