Here is part of the ⁦@GranadaReports⁩ report from the ⁦@ParaHistories⁩ debates that our #BSGDY12 ⁦@BoltonSch⁩ pupils took part in ⁦⁦@LRGSLancaster⁩. It really was a fantastic experience to engage in contested and controversial histories.

Paper 1: PM and Cabinet
Dominic Cummings exposes the extent to which Cabinet government today is complete theatre. The meetings are genuinely scripted in advance. The conclusions are written before the meetings. They walk down the street to smile for the cameras. It’s a Potemkin exercise.

Year 13 - tenuous link to Paper 3 (socialism). Unfortunately watching it doesn’t count as mock exam revision!
IT’S A WONDERFUL LIFE was released 78 years ago this week. One of the most beloved of all Christmas movies, and among the most popular films of its star James Stewart, the tale of how it was created is like throwing a lasso round the moon… 1/47

Paper 1: Parliament (ten minute rule bills), electoral systems (PR, electoral reform)
MPs have voted for Sarah Olney's Bill to introduce proportional representation. This is a crucial step towards fixing our broken electoral system and ensuring every vote counts.

A new topic introduced this year by @esteem_acetUK . Year 13 learning about Pelvic Health and how early awareness and understanding can help prevent common issues later in life. Thank you Gareth, another fabulous session.

Unusual method of incorporating direct democracy into the legislative process. Rupert Lowe has here given up the role of being a representative and taken the role (for this vote alone) of being a pure delegate on a highly contentious vote
Assisted dying - I have my own views of course, but on such an emotive issue I thought it was right to consult my constituents. I have been running a local 'referendum' on whether the people of Great Yarmouth support assisted dying, or not. The poll closed last night, and the results are as follows. 1,181 constituents participated, their eligibility to vote as a Great Yarmouth resident was verified. 892 voted in favour of assisted dying. 289 voted against assisted dying. My constituents have spoken, and that is how I will vote tomorrow.

Paper 3: socialism, conservatism
Someone very clever said to me, the assisted dying bill debate separates, on the right, conservatives from libertarians; on the left, socialists from progressives.

GOLD! England's Junior Women have been crowned champions at the EU Nations Cup after a sensational 16-9 (2-4, 6-2, 4-1, 4-2) victory against Czechia. It was a magnificent team performance. Congratulations to all the players and coaches, and huge thanks for all the great support!
