#23 Oregon is 5-3. Duke is 6-2. They have one common opponent in Illinois. Oregon lost to Illinois by 11 on the road. Duke beat Illinois by 4 on the road. The CFP committee’s annual goal of killing the ACC means Duke can’t get any attention though!

Bizarre stand on workplace violence
#Titans HC Robert Saleh with a passionate defense of Jordan Elliott following his release after going to his car to retrieve a gun. “I will stand on the table for Jordan’s character. Unfortunately, rules are rules with regard to guns on property. And sometimes it’s far greater than the knee-jerk reaction of kicking somebody when they’re down. My message to 31 other teams would be if you need a helluva run-stopping D-tackle that can help you on a playoff run, give me a call. I’ll tell you everything you need to know about him. He’s a good man. Had a terrible lapse in judgment that I recognize as a call for help more than a criminal act. It’s unfortunate the way it went down. As far as Jordan’s concerned and the locker room and all that, I think people see it differently here than the knee-jerk reaction of the world.”

This is almost brilliantly evil. A published field study found temperatures over a large solar installation averaged ~2.4°C (4.3°F) warmer than nearby natural terrain, with nighttime differences reaching ~3–4°C. Now imagine covering 270,000 acres of Virginia with solar. Alter the land surface. Reduce natural evaporative cooling. Create a measurable local solar heat-island effect. Then point to higher temperatures and say: “LOOK! CLIMATE CHANGE! WE NEED MORE SOLAR!” More solar → more altered land surface → more local heating → more justification for solar. You couldn’t design a better feedback loop if you tried.
Virginia Gov. Abigail Spanberger is proposing 277,000 acres of solar panels to produce home grown “clean” energy. That’s the size of Fairfax County, Arlington County, and the City of Alexandria combined. Ninety percent of the solar panels would be placed on farmland and forests. Millions of trees would be clear-cut. State Senator Glen Sturtevant says solar is unreliable and he once again called for a statewide data center moratorium. The governor’s energy report says data centers are driving 90% of new energy demand.

Translation: this made up stat will help us decide which 9-3 B10 or SEC team to put in over an 11-1 ACC team. #dinichhatestheACC
This is an “inside baseball” type stat that won’t trump quality wins, schedule strength and record strength and what the committee sees on film. But it will put a number to answer the question: how tough is the daily grind in the each league? It’s not even equal within them.

I’ll be curious to see if this film is set in the real 1977 or one in which American culture was profoundly changed by a WW2 vet stuntman & faded actor heroically stopping the Manson murders.
Brad Pitt returns as Cliff Booth, only this time it’s 1977 and it’s a very different Hollywood. Directed by David Fincher from a screenplay by Quentin Tarantino, THE FURTHER MIS-ADVENTURES OF CLIFF BOOTH comes to IMAX November 25.

There is a very boring political science answer for why this happened; the center-left party's coalition demographically changed to no longer need the exurban white voters who hold this worldview.
2006 Obama: No illegal immigrants should be allowed to work here. Companies should be required to offer a job to American citizens at a good wage before offering the job to a guest worker. Apparently this is all racist now.

One of the 9/11 hijackers was listed in the San Diego phone book. Under his real name. And that is the least damning fact in this story. January 5, 2000. Al-Qaeda holds a planning summit in Kuala Lumpur. The CIA knows about it, watches it, and photographs the men walking in. Two of them are Nawaf al-Hazmi and Khalid al-Mihdhar. The agency has a photocopy of Mihdhar's passport. Stamped inside is a valid multiple-entry visa for the United States. That same morning, an FBI agent detailed to the CIA's bin Laden unit named Doug Miller drafts a cable to FBI headquarters saying exactly that. A CIA supervisor tells him to put it on hold. A week later Miller follows up in writing: "Is this a no go or should I remake it in some way." He never gets an answer. The cable sits in draft until after the towers fall. The Justice Department's inspector general later went looking for someone who could explain why. Nobody could. January 15, 2000. Hazmi and Mihdhar fly United into Los Angeles. In March, CIA officers in Bangkok confirm in a cable that Hazmi boarded that flight to LA. The FBI is still not told. By February they are in San Diego, and they make no effort to hide. Real names on the apartment. Real names on the California driver's licenses, the bank accounts, the credit cards, the used car. They buy phone service and let the company print Hazmi in the local directory. In May they rent a room from a man they met at their mosque. He is an active FBI informant. His handler never learns who is sleeping down the hall. They try flight school that spring and wash out. Their English is too poor to follow the instructor. So the plot brings in a pilot. Hani Hanjour arrives in December 2000. In January and February 2001 his flight school in Phoenix calls the FAA three separate times because something is wrong with him. The manager, Peggy Chevrette, put it plainly: "I couldn't believe he had a commercial license of any kind with the skills that he had." An FAA inspector comes out, verifies the license is genuine, and closes it. Eight months later Hanjour flies American 77 into the Pentagon. July 4, 2001. Mihdhar walks back into the country at JFK. Nobody stops him, because nobody ever put him on a list. July 10. An FBI agent in Phoenix writes a memo warning that bin Laden may be sending men to American flight schools. It dies in the building. August 6. The President's Daily Brief carries the title "Bin Ladin Determined To Strike in US." August 16. Zacarias Moussaoui is arrested in Minnesota. Agents there beg headquarters for a warrant to open his laptop and are refused. August 23. The CIA finally watchlists Hazmi and Mihdhar. Nineteen days left. August 27. A headquarters agent accuses the Minneapolis supervisor of writing his request to get people "spun up." The supervisor answers that yes, he was trying to keep someone from taking a plane and crashing it into the World Trade Center. Headquarters tells him that is not going to happen. Days later, Steve Bongardt, the New York agent running the USS Cole investigation, is told he cannot join the hunt for Mihdhar because his case is criminal and the lead is intelligence. He writes back: someday someone will die, and wall or not, the public will not understand why we were not more effective. The hunt for Mihdhar goes to a new agent on his first counterterrorism case, filed at routine precedence, which gave the office thirty days to respond. He is still checking New York hotel records on the morning of the eleventh. And that morning the system touched them one last time. At Dulles, the screening software flagged Hanjour, Mihdhar, and Moqed. A ticket agent pulled both Hazmi brothers aside because one had no photo ID and could not understand English. The only consequence of being flagged in 2001 was that your checked bag was held until you boarded the plane. They boarded. The bags went with them. Here is the part people get wrong. The Commission found no plot to let it happen, and I have seen nothing that changes that. What it found was worse in a way, because it is so ordinary. A wall between two agencies. A cable left in draft. A lead marked routine. A hundred people each doing the narrow job in front of them, correctly, and nobody holding the whole picture. We know it could be done, because it had been done. In December 1999 a customs inspector in Port Angeles named Diana Dean thought a man coming off the ferry looked nervous. She asked him a few more questions. The trunk was full of explosives meant for LAX. That is the whole answer. Stopping it never required a secret nobody had. It required one person with the standing to be believed.

It was Fairfax County Search and Rescue that did the heavy lifting at the Pentagon. I used to see them in the grocery store and could only say "Thank You" and insist that they get in front of me in line. Two of the hijackers attended the Mosque nit far from my house, close to my old high school. The daughter of one of the board members of the Mosque managed to get elected to the School Board and oversaw the destruction the my high school, J.E.B. Stuart and during a commencement speech told the students to remember "jihad" and that we were "one Nation under allah." Shame on you Fairfax County. Again.
Fairfax County's new 9/11 teaching guide devotes roughly half its content to creating "safe spaces for Muslim and Middle Eastern students." while mentioning military families just three times and first responders once. The six-page document, obtained by Fox News Digital's @AsraNomani, contains 30 references to Islam, "anti-Muslim racism," and "Islamophobic rhetoric." It explicitly tells teachers not to "associate the 9/11 attacks with Islam or Muslims" and not to "center the extremists or the acts of the extremists." Only about 15% of the guide actually spells out specific 9/11 instruction. Retired Vice Admiral Lou Crenshaw, who was inside the Pentagon when al-Qaeda terrorists flew a plane into the building, ripped the guide for failing to convey "the evilness of what actually happened," calling it a sanitized, "vanilla" approach that shaves the facts until students can't figure out what they're learning about.

Why would that be controversial? I don’t think they would have been shouting “Allahu akbar” if they were Quakers.

The doctor who delivered Dolly Parton in a one-room Tennessee cabin in 1946 was paid with a sack of cornmeal. Her father farmed other people's land and could not read or write. Eighty years later, the reading program she built in his name has mailed more than 300 million books. She wrote "I Will Always Love You" on the same afternoon she wrote "Jolene," as a goodbye to Porter Wagoner, and released it in 1974. Elvis wanted it. The night before the session, Colonel Tom Parker called and said Presley would only record it if they got half the publishing, meaning half of everything the song ever earned. She had been in Nashville ten years by then. She said no, and cried all night. Whitney Houston cut her version in 1992, held number one for fourteen weeks, and Forbes later put Parton's royalties from it near $10 million. She put some of that money into an office complex in Nashville and called the place the house that Whitney built. Dollywood opened in Pigeon Forge in 1986 because she wanted paychecks in the county she came from. Around 4,000 people work there now. Three million visitors come every year. The University of Tennessee put its economic impact at $1.8 billion, and it is the largest employer in Sevier County. Since 2022 the company has paid tuition, fees, and books in full for every worker from their first day, seasonal hires included. Wildfires tore through those mountains in November 2016, killing fourteen people and destroying more than 2,400 buildings. Her foundation was handing out money within 48 hours. Every family that lost a home got $1,000 a month for six months, regardless of income. The final check was $5,000. Total delivered: $8.9 million. In April 2020 she sent $1 million to Vanderbilt for coronavirus research. When Moderna's vaccine results ran in the New England Journal of Medicine that November, her fund appeared in the footnotes. Carl Dean, her husband of nearly sixty years, died in March 2025. The note she wrote to fans afterward ended with the same five words she wrote for Porter Wagoner back in 1974. She died in Nashville today. Her family asked that instead of flowers, people give to the Imagination Library, which still mails 3.4 million books a month to children who will never get to meet her.
A message from the family of Dolly Parton.

This clip neatly encapsulates a historical situation in which there are no further battles for recognition to fight so completely fake, delusional ones take center stage and cannibalize reason and reality. Hundreds of German rallied to protest the deportation of Afghan migrant convicted child rapists and murderers, parents march in the street for the right to chemically castrate and dismember their own children, female athletes call for the inclusion of men into their league to destroy the integrity of the sport that provides their own livelihood.
WNBA star Gabby Williams supports trans women playing in the league: “I would welcome a trans athlete on my team or against my team.”
