Beginning Monday, October 5, the @BaltimoreDPW will begin withdrawing water from the Susquehanna River to supplement water from the Prettyboy and Loch Raven reservoirs. Susquehanna water will be blended with Loch Raven water before being treated and tested at the Montebello water treatment plants. You may notice a slight change in taste, odor or color in your water. It will remain safe for drinking, bathing, and cooking. The length of time that Susquehanna River water will be used will depend on rainfall, reservoir recovery, and overall water-supply conditions. The blended water will primarily serve areas supplied by the Montebello plants, including portions of Baltimore County. Areas supplied by the Liberty system are not expected to receive Susquehanna River water. For more information, please visit tr.ee/A38nAY.

Containment and recovery efforts continue along the Long Quarter Branch tributary. Crews have walked accessible portions of Long Quarter Branch and are checking areas where fuel may have collected. They are also inspecting underground storm drainage lines with a camera. Containment and sorbent booms are in place at several locations, and crews continue to recover fuel. UPDATE: A diesel leak at the Baltimore County Detention Center in Towson was identified and stopped last night. Baltimore County, the Maryland Department of the Environment, the U.S. Coast Guard and additional partners are continuing efforts to contain and recover fuel from Long Quarter Branch, a tributary of Loch Raven Reservoir. Crews are assessing the extent of the spill, and cleanup is continuing around the clock. Residents near affected streams may notice a diesel odor over the next few days. People and pets should stay away from water with a visible sheen or diesel odor. There is no impact to public drinking water or private wells at this time, and water remains safe to drink. We will continue to provide updates as more information is confirmed.
Baltimore County is responding to a diesel fuel leak from a backup generator at the Baltimore County Detention Center. The leak was discovered late Saturday and has been stopped. Residents near local streams may notice a diesel odor. Baltimore County is working alongside Baltimore City, the Maryland Department of the Environment, the United States Coast Guard, and additional resource partners to clean up the spill and assess nearby waterways, including the area near Loch Raven Reservoir. There is no impact to drinking water. We will continue to keep residents updated as we receive more information.

As DPWT continues to clear the roads, here are some ways you can more efficiently shovel snow on your own property. Remember that the plows will most likely come through multiple times, the final time being curb-to-curb. Don't do double duty! bit.ly/BaltCoSnow
