What happened tonight is disgusting, heartbreaking, and unacceptable. My thoughts and prayers are with the victims, their families, and everyone impacted by this tragedy. We will do everything in our power to hold those responsible accountable.

The continued progress we have seen since we launched this strategy in September 2022 did not happen by accident; it was the result of tireless, daily work by our @BaltimorePolice officers and law enforcement partners, Baltimore’s Group Violence Reduction Strategy, @BaltimoreMONSE staff, prosecutors, everyone involved in our community violence intervention ecosystem, and most importantly, the people of Baltimore.
Looking ahead, we cannot take these gains for granted. We have to continue to double and triple down on the strategies that are making our communities safer.

With tomorrow being the last day of school for many students, parents & guardians: know the plan this summer. Know where your teens are, who they're with, set expectations, and stay connected.
A few conversations today can help keep our young people safe tomorrow. 💙

🏫 In approximately 74% of school shootings, the gun comes from home or the home of a family or friend.
That’s why we’re promoting safe gun storage—because gun safety starts at home. Your gift will help spread the word!

Gun violence affects families, neighborhoods, and entire communities.
This Gun Violence Awareness Month, BPD recognizes those whose lives have been impacted by gun violence and encourages everyone to play a role in creating a safer Baltimore.

This is HUGE.
A new study found that Safe Streets led to a 42% drop in youth homicides in Baltimore.
This comes after the Penn North Safe Streets site marked one year with ZERO homicides! @BaltimoreMONSE @MayorBMScott
New research: Baltimore's Safe Streets program is associated with a 42% drop in youth homicides and 21% fewer nonfatal youth shootings.
It's the first study to examine community violence intervention programs specifically for youth violence impacts. 🔗publichealth.jhu.edu/center-…

I say it all the time, Baltimore has the best Federal Delegation in the country.
Despite massive cuts at the federal level, we have been able to secure $1.18M in federal investment to support and expand GVRS and strengthen the work that is already helping to drive down violence and save lives across our city.
Thank you to our Federal Delegation and all of our partners who keep showing up for Baltimore.

May is Mental Health Awareness Month — a time to recognize the importance of mental wellness for everyone in our community.
At the Baltimore Police Department, we understand that mental health is just as important as physical safety. Our officers work closely with community partners and crisis response resources to ensure individuals receive the care and support they need.
If you or someone you know is struggling, you are not alone. Reach out, check in on loved ones, and don’t hesitate to seek help.

This is historic and hard-fought progress—but our work is not done.
Any life lost to violence in our city is one too many. I want to thank the brave men and women of @BaltimorePolice, our community violence intervention ecosystem, @OAGMaryland, @BaltimoreMONSE, @BaltimoreSAO, and most importantly, our residents for their collective work to make our neighborhoods safer than they've been in decades.
Now is the time to go even further: to expand the strategies that are working, to strengthen the partnerships that have gotten us to this point, and to maintain our focus on saving lives.
My team and I are just as committed to this work today as we have been since day one.
