I express my deep concern and strongly condemn the recent demolition of more than 1,100 Bengali Muslim homes in Assam, India, by the authorities. The demolition drive also reportedly destroyed more than 10 mosques, some of which had stood for over 50 years. While the authorities have justified these actions as an effort to reclaim government and forest land from alleged “encroachers”, Indian media reports indicate that many affected families have deep-rooted ties to the region, having lived on these lands since long before India’s independence. Instead of ensuring adequate resettlement and rehabilitation, the authorities have left many families displaced and vulnerable, with some reportedly placed in detention centres. This latest operation is part of a disturbing pattern of discrimination and persecution of Bengali Muslims in India, fuelled by Hindutva-driven politics. Approximately 19,000 families have reportedly been displaced over the past decade. For years, Bengali Muslims in India have faced crackdowns, forced push-ins and exclusion from voter lists. These actions suggest that the current government is pursuing a targeted agenda against Muslim minorities and actively enforcing measures that threaten their rights and security. This evokes the unlawful demolition of the historic Babri Masjid in 1992, an event that remains an enduring symbol of religious intolerance and communal division. Under Hindutva fascism, India has categorically failed to protect its minority communities, including Muslims, Christians and Sikhs, as well as lower-caste Hindus. I call upon the international community to take immediate cognisance of the systematic persecution of Muslims by the Indian authorities. The Indian government must be held accountable for these serious human rights violations and infringements on religious freedom. It must uphold the principles of justice and equality for every Indian citizen, regardless of caste, religion or cultural identity. Muslims of India are Indians too.

Listening to Hasina speak at an event held in DC a few things become clear: The Indian government continues to allow Hasina to abuse her asylum to actively undermine Bangladesh’s elected government. This demonstrates that the Modi regime is not serious about a reset in its relationship with Bangladesh. Hasina’s claim to uphold democratic values is laughable to anyone who has the slightest knowledge of Bangladesh’s history. She and her supporters continue to promote an alternate reality in which they pretend to be the guardians of freedom. The Awami League continues its well funded effort to disseminate its disinformation about the events of July 2024. They believe that repeating a lie often enough will eventually make it true. It is unlikely that these efforts will succeed in influencing US policy given the ease with which Hasina’s lies can be disproven. At the same time, they may be useful in preventing members of the AL cult from breaking away from her grip.

We strongly condemn the heckling of former interim government Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus by activists of the banned Awami League at John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York. This incident has once again exposed the brutal, violent, and inhumane nature of the Awami League’s terrorism-driven politics. Even two years after being decisively rejected by the people of Bangladesh, the Awami League’s terrorist cadres have shown no change in character, nor have they demonstrated the slightest remorse for their past misdeeds. We demand that justice be served and verdicts swiftly implemented against those responsible for the systematic atrocities committed under the fascist regime, including extrajudicial killings, enforced disappearances, and the July massacre. Furthermore, formal legal proceedings must begin without delay to hold the Awami League accountable as a political party for its institutional role in mass killings and its continued acts of terror. At a critical juncture in the nation’s history, Professor Yunus and other members of the interim government took responsibility for leading efforts to restore democracy and rebuild an economy left in ruins. The government must take effective measures to ensure the safety and security of all those who served the country during this challenging period.

Salman Muqtadir’s studio was vandalized, causing him significant loss and damage. The government’s responsibility should be to ensure that he is compensated for those losses. Instead, the entire state machinery is being used to harass him. This appears to be an attempt to discourage people from speaking out or protesting against such actions.

Reforms under #Bangladesh's Interim Government, which would have made enforced disappearances subject to independent investigation, were jettisoned by the newly elected Bangladesh Nationalist Party. Now, as @hrw reports, a new case of enforced disappearance has been documented — and the country is back to where it was under the Awami League government: denial, and no investigation. hrw.org/news/2026/07/20/bang…

Following intensive talks, we are pleased to announce that the Peace Deal between the United States of America and Islamic Republic of Iran has been REACHED. Both sides have declared the immediate and permanent termination of military operations on all fronts, including in Lebanon. The official signing ceremony will be on Friday, 19 June in Switzerland. We would like to thank the United States of America and the Islamic Republic of Iran for their commitment to finding a diplomatic solution to the conflict. We would also like to extend our sincere appreciation to our brothers in this mediation effort, the great leadership of State of Qatar, for their support in reaching this agreement. I would also especially thank the visionary leadership of Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and Republic of Türkiye for their immense contributions in this regard. With the agreement now in place, mediators will facilitate a series of meetings this week. These pre-implementation discussions will lay the foundation for the technical talks and the official signing ceremony. @realDonaldTrump @JDVance @SecRubio @SteveWitkoff @SEPeaceMissions @drpezeshkian @mb_ghalibaf @araghchi

These are graves being dug for more than 160 innocent young girls who were killed in the US-Israeli bombing of a primary school. Their bodies were torn to shreds. This is how "rescue" promised by Mr. Trump looks in reality. From Gaza to Minab, innocents murdered in cold blood.

My heart goes out to the family and friends of Osman Hadi at the news of his passing after a brave struggle to recover from an assassin's bullet. He now enters the ranks of heroes who have made the ultimate sacrifice on behalf of their fellow Bangladeshi citizens. The best way to honor him and frustrate the plans of his murderer is for all to recommit to the task of building Bangladesh 2.0 and fulfilling the aspirations of the July Revolution. A luta continua.

Another pathetic lie by the supporters and apologists for Bangladesh’s deposed dictator. This photo was not taken during the Israeli PM’s speech.

I have been thinking about the incidents in Gopalgang involving the NCP march and the AL and security forces responses. First and foremost, it is outrageous for the AL supporters to try to equate what happened in Gopalgang with the regime's actions in July/Aug 2024. While it may have been a deliberate provocation, the NCP (and others) certainly have a right to hold rallies and political activity anywhere in the country, including in Gopalgang. The NCP leadership and security forces should have anticipated a reaction from the AL supporters and been prepared for what ensued. The AL supporters did not have a right to confront the NCP and security forces simply because of the perceived insult/challenge posed by the march. The AL was looking for a fight and got one. They are not blameless victims. As with any incident that results in loss of life, it is appropriate to question the use of force by law enforcement agencies. There should be procedures to review and ensure that the security forces acted correctly. If they did not, there needs to be accountability and changes to SOPs. In the coming weeks and months, there are likely to be other similar confrontations involving rival political factions as elections approach. The law enforcement agencies will need to plan appropriately to prevent violence and respond accordingly. This should be a priority for the IG. It is clear that the AL's desire is to divert attention from their crimes and try to establish some type of moral equivalency with the IG. They want to undermine the July/August commemorations. The pro-democracy forces need to understand this and avoid playing into the hands of those who want to turn back the clock.

Taking national decisions sitting in #London has not been good for anyone. It has called into question the authority, stability and impartiality of the government. It should be clear whether the #government is just afraid of political power or will it show responsibility towards the people, students and the aspirations of #July. - @NahidIslam_24 Convenor, NCP #Nahidislam #NCPBangladesh #NagorikParty #NCP #InquilabZindabad

Japan to recruit one lakh Bangladeshi workers in five years Tokyo, May 29, 2025: Japanese authorities and businesses on Thursday announced plans to recruit at least 100,000 workers from Bangladesh in the next five years to meet the country's growing workers' shortage. Speaking at a seminar titled, “Bangladesh Seminar on Human Resources”, Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus said that the Interim Government of Bangladesh would do everything in its capacity to create the job opportunities for Bangladeshis in Japan. “This is going to be the most exciting day for me, the most inspiring day. This will open the door for Bangladeshis to not only work but to know Japan,” said the Chief Adviser. The Chief Adviser witnessed the signing of two Memorandum of Understanding – first between Bangladesh's Bureau of Manpower Employment and Training (BMET) and Kaicom Dream Street (KDS), a Japan-Bangladesh joint venture, and second between Bangladesh's BMET and Japan’s National Business Support Combined Cooperatives (a business federation with over 65 receiving companies operating in Japan) and JBBRA (Japan Bangla Bridge Recruiting Agency) at the event organised in Toshi Kaikan conference hall. “This gathering is about opening the door,” said the Chief Adviser, noting that Bangladesh is a country of 180 million people, and half of them are under 27. “The government’s job is to open the door for them,” he said. Mitsuru Matsushita, Representative Director of Supervising Organisation Shizuoka Workplace Environment Improvement Cooperative said many Japanese companies are facing enquiries about Bangladeshis, and he believed this trend would continue. “Bangladeshi talents hold great potential. It is our duty to nurture their talent,” he said. Mikio Kesagayama, Chairman of NBCC, recalled that about 14 years ago, Professor Yunus came to Japan and was telling stories about helping women through microcredit. He said that in the first three decades of their business, they strived for a quality workforce. “Our Federation looks to Bangladesh for young and capable labour. They can contribute to the development of both Bangladesh and Japan,” he said. “In the coming five years we are prepared to welcome more than 100,000 Bangladeshi workers,” he said. Sharing the future plan on the recruitment of Bangladeshis in the Japanese industries, Miki Watanabe, President of Watami Group, said a school they established in Bangladesh trains 1500 students every year, and they are now planning to raise the number to 3000. With technical education in Bangladesh, they can enter the job market in Japan, he said. Hiroaki Yagi, Japan International Trainee & Skilled Worker Cooperation Organisation (JITCO) chairman, shared the potential and challenges for Bangladeshis in the Japanese labour market. He said the number of language teachers in Bangladesh is still short. Niki Hirobumi, State Minister of the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare (MHLW), Japan, said Japan is facing a declining population and thus will need the support of Bangladeshi workforce. “This can be promising not only for Bangladesh but also for Japan,” he said. In his welcome speech, Daud Ali, ambassador of Bangladesh to Japan, said by 2040, the Japanese labour shortage could reach 11 million, and Bangladesh could take this opportunity to send more skilled workers.
