It's Mussel Monday! Elliptio crassidens, aka elephant ear,🐘👂️ is a common river mussel species in the lower Flint River basin. Sometimes found in large clusters, they often have a highly eroded outer shell since they're often in rocky substrate with faster moving water.

Jamie Rogers successfully defended her MS Thesis @AuburnFisheries yesterday on breeding habitat and recruitment of shoal bass and largemouth bass in the lower Flint River and its tributaries. Jamie will be joining us as a Research Associate in our Aquatic Sciences Lab in June!
