Fun fact since we are still in a pandemic. Here's the average cost/person for public health emergency mgmt/prep for the last 5 yrs:
2020: $1
2019: $1.90
2018: $1.90
2017: $1.89
2016: $1.86
If we want to be prepared for the next pandemic, maybe we should start funding it.
While the effects of this are unfortunate, our state/local govs using contractors to do their work is hardly new & touches just about every sector of gov work. In many cases it puts an unnecessary layer between the people and their gov and removes local knowledge from decisions.
Contractors stand to gain millions from Trump’s One Big Beautiful Bill Act, as governments pay the companies to update state computer systems that will add red tape and restrictions for Medicaid and SNAP benefits.

Those same economists said that the OBBB was also a tax shift to the lower classes and largest wealth transfer ever, and NOW you want to invoke them.
While there are legitimate concerns raised by the questions in this survey, this report highlights the effect that mis-/disinformation has on people and their ability to accurately gauge risks.
A new report from the KFF–@WashingtonPost survey shows about 4 in 10 parents identify as supporters of the “Make America Healthy Again” movement.
Alignment with the movement among parents is highly correlated with political identification: on.kff.org/477Oo5L

ALT KFF bar chart graphic titled "About 4 in 10 Parents Support the MAHA Movement, Including 8 in 10 MAGA Republican Parents." Data shows varying levels of support across party ID. Key insights include higher support among Republicans and lower support among Democrats and Independents. Source: KFF/The Washington Post Survey of Parents, dated July 18-August 4, 2025.
Agenda just dropped for Hegseth's meeting with the top brass.

Red states lose more funding than blue states, bc red states didn't fight back. This says a lot about political priorities and how much politicians actually care about their constituents.
NEW: The Trump administration’s cuts of public health funds to state and local health departments had vastly uneven effects depending on the political leanings of where someone lives, a new analysis by @HMLLarweh, @rachanadpradhan and @raelnb shows.

Why is the vast majority of emergency management public messaging stuck in the, "be aware, make a plan, build a kit" rut? How is that truly helpful and advancing public awareness of what the field actually does?
Given Trump's new EO about involuntarily committing people, I feel like more people should read this book and keep in mind that history may not repeat itself, but is sure as hell rhymes. We are better than this.

I have nothing wrong with anyone who is "just asking questions." But if you aren't doing it with the innocence, openness, and desire to learn that a 5 year old does it, then you're just trying to be a jerk.

Every day is just more proof that not all opinions are valid ones. Why we ,as a country, ever gave people like this a platform is beyond me.
Stephen Miller: "Children will be taught to love America … As we close the Dept of Education and provide funding to states, we're going to make sure these funds are not being used to promote communist ideology." @atrupar
It would be amazing if people were able to get medical care as quickly and cheaply as I currently receive service at both of these places. This really isn't the own he thinks it is.
Replying to @herosnvrdie69
Sure. If it weren’t for the rationing. And interminable delays.
Just think about the joys of the post office or the DMV with respect to your medical care.
The number of people in these comments who think this now up like a balloon with no ventilation whatsoever is concerning, and just proves the OPs point.
I just cannot understand why it is so controversial to say that people (all people that is) deserve healthcare that won't bankrupt them. What humane reason could anyone possibly have to be against it? Can someone explain it to me like I'm 5?
Apparently more than half of the locations in my county that were eligible to receive broadband under the BEAD program are no longer eligible, and the commissioners are surprised. Unfortunately, this is what they voted for and they cannot see the connection.
