I'd guess that there were conflicting messages at the top, so this move puts Meccage firmly as the top voice on the pitching side. Christian Wonders has worked on the development side previously, and I don't think they really had that voice at the top...
New Baggs article outlines coaching staff changes for the pitching group. Keeping Meccage, Wonders will transition to a focus on an "overhaul" of MiLB development, Frank Anderson demoted from Director of ML Pitching to assistant pitching coach nytimes.com/athletic/7722423…

...on the minor league side. I suppose that was Clay Rapada's role. Wonders helped Ian Seymour's control back in the Cape Cod League a few years ago. I can think of a few Giants prospects who would become major league pitchers with even a modest improvement in control.

I knew Yaxel’s game would translate extremely well to the league, but I’d be lying if I said I expected him to be this good offensively this fast.

Jim Bowden lists a handful of landing spots for the top-40 free agents. Among those mentioned as fits for the #SFGiants include: No. 9 - IF Brandon Lowe No. 10 - P Clay Holmes No. 18 - P Kaima Taira No. 21 - P Shota Imanaga No. 27 - P Hiromi Itoh

I like Holmes as a fit for the Giants. It feels like his style would play well at Oracle Park. I could see him getting a third year on his deal. If the Giants want to reduce the number of walks they allow, Imanaga checks that box off.

Yaxel Lendeborg after three quarters: 27 points, 11 rebounds, 3 assists, 1 block, 2 turnovers (8/17 FG, 10/11 FT). He's having his best, most complete game so far. Home-run pick by the Warriors and a ROY favorite.

Don't often say this in a World Series game but the old Skip Caray comment of feel free to go walk your dog if you promise to patronize our sponsors may apply tonight. The Brewers have a 10-run lead. In 10 postseason games the Brewers' bullpen has allowed nine runs.

Dodger fans want you to believe this WS sucks so bad. Meanwhile, the first 2 games have been fantastic baseball.
This World Series feels so auraless

I suppose this is not all that surprising, but 2026 was the first full season since 1972 in which a Giants reliever did not record at least 10 saves. Caleb Kilian led the way with 8 saves, and he was traded away in early August.

Notably, the Dodgers and Padres. That said, San Diego is so light on trade capital in the minors that would be tough to swing without trading from the major league roster.

Would not be surprising if that contending team was in the NL West.
Amidst trade speculation, #Guardians PBO Chris Antonetti says "as we sit here today, we’re expecting Steven Kwan to be a big part of a contending team next year" mlbtraderumors.com/2026/10/g…

I am not quite sure if this is the case today, but the Rays' pitching development philosophy went against the norm a couple of years ago, as they consolidated pitch mixes, intending to maximize stuff and improve control. OTOH other teams were expanding...

...arsenals to allow pitchers to throw deeper into games and counter the third-turn-through-the-lineup penalty. There is no one-size-fits-all approach to development, and what one team employs can vary considerably across the league.

The 2026 season did not accomplish much for the Giants, but at the very least, they seem to have a formidable duo in the middle of the lineup with Rafael Devers and Bryce Eldridge. Even Casey Schmitt flashed 30+ home run potential...

...The Giants will need to get production from the remaining hitters, but that is a strong starting point. A Devers-Eldridge duo has the upside that the Giants have been light on in recent years.
