A new study has found that it's key tropical crops like #coffee, #cocoa and #mango, that support millions of farmers in the Global South, that are most at risk from loss of #pollinators due to #climatechange and land use – read about it here: jeffollerton.co.uk/2023/10/1…

New preprint from PhD work: a deep investigation into dynamics and drivers of evolution of succulent lineages. By far the biggest project I've undertaken, this was a great collab between @NPriestLab, @HdzHdz_Lab and @LabSpiritu, involving several awesome trips to Mexico 1/4

How can you predict xylose metabolism in yeasts based only on sequence data? For this trait, gene content alone isn't predictive, but codon optimization of these genes improves predictions. For more on this check out our new paper in @MBE academic.oup.com/mbe/advance…

Here is the original thread: nitter.gq/DebrayReena/status/156… Since posting the preprint, we also sequenced the genomes at the reviewers' suggestion. As expected from the phenotypic data – we found strong signatures of parallel evolution in genes implicated in plant colonization.
Excited to share two pubs from my PhD this week, one on historical contingency in ecology and the other on historical contingency in evolution, and some thoughts on what these two subfields can learn from each other. 🧵(1/10)
