“But analysts say its stock market debut - which will see its promoters dilute their shareholding by about 3% - could mark a turning point in Jio's pricing strategy, potentially bringing an end to years of ultra-cheap tariffs.” @Nik_Inamdar bbc.com/news/articles/cw78pe…

About 20% of Israeli citizens are Palestinians. In many ways they play an outsized role in Israeli society, but they also face significant discrimination by law and in everyday encounters. This is the subject of my latest article. newlinesmag.com/spotlight/yo…

Palestinian citizens of Israel face considerable discrimination, but some, like Haifa-born Yousef Haddad, have chosen to identify with the state and its system. The loyalty is not often reciprocated, writes @lisang in @newlinesmag. newlinesmag.com/spotlight/yo…

lies, lies and more lies
The Prime Minister’s Office: The facts surrounding the confrontation near Abu Falah, during which Washington Post photojournalist Heidi Levine was allegedly assaulted, remain unclear and are under investigation. Israel unequivocally condemns violence against anyone—Jews, Arabs, Christians or journalists. Those responsible will be held accountable. But serious questions remain. Reports indicate some 200 Arabs and far-left activists confronted approximately 40 Israeli youths. Footage shows masked individuals on both sides hurling objects, amid reports of fireworks fired at Jewish youths. Other footage appears to show Levine knocked down and immediately helped to her feet by the same unidentified individual. The investigation must establish the facts, including who initiated the violence. We will not allow disputed incidents to be exploited to demonize the hundreds of thousands of law-abiding Jewish residents of Judea and Samaria. The facts must determine the conclusions. Not the headlines.

A helpless little baby on the day she was rescued from traffickers. You can read her story in this thread, but first I want to say this: Upwards of 80% of trafficked baby gorillas don’t survive, according to primatologist Lindsay Maess. The mother and other family members are usually killed to get the baby. The exotic pet trade is exploding—fueled by social media—and owners of these platforms can effectively censor and suppress posts they don't like—but allow this evil trade to flourish. What happened to Bili is an eye-opening story of how hard it is to help these babies, even though she is one of the more fortunate few. (1/2🧵)

Hablamos hoy con el presidente Lula. Mucha alegría por su triunfo. Acordamos reunirnos pronto.

“Over the past 20 years, pessimistic narratives have come to dominate public life: on the left, grim warnings of impending climate disaster and economic collapse; on the far right, apocalyptic conspiracy theories about demographic decline.”
When we stop believing in an open future--or even that there will be a future at all--we risk abdicating the power to participate in democratic politics. For my new @NYTmag Context column, I talked to a few people who are looking to change that: nytimes.com/2026/10/26/magaz…

While I'm all for experienced voices calling for change, why did so many stay silent through years of deep & visible damage to India's economy. The truth lies in the last 3 paragraphs. We have a jobs, growth, inequity & accountability problem. And tax changes will not solve that.
"However, what troubles me is that for the first time I am now being asked about the need for an India-dedicated allocation. Many allocators no longer think India is important enough to warrant dedicated exposure. Why bother with sticking their neck out and betting on India..."

Why last night I cancelled my subscription to the W Post. None of the journalists have the back of its owner. Bezos made his gargantuan fortune on the back of books, yet he closed down the Books section. He has no grasp of literature or journalism. nytimes.com/2026/10/26/us/po…

The whole world should be paying attention to what is happening in India right now. Computer programs have been used to systematically remove huge numbers of voters from the electoral rolls. But India's Gen Z has cottoned on and the tide is turning...
Bengal is a dangerous example of how democracy was turned on its head. Of the total deleted/removed voters that appealed, 91% of them were restored on the voters list. But state election was over by then and BJP grabbed power. The Supreme Court aided this power grabbing. How will anything change in the system if your vote doesn’t matter?

I honestly can't believe that this level of repression would ever be seen in New Delhi. It is beyond shocking.
Despite the State, on this dark day ordinary people did whatever they could to defend our freedom of Speech, right to assemble, above all our right to vote. And save democracy in New Delhi. The State was out in full force, afraid of it citizens defending their rights.
