Bada Badua Daka : A Unique Tradition of Odisha!
Every year on Diwali, Odia families perform Bada Badua Daka, an age-old tradition where we remember & honour our Ancestors.
As part of this ritual, people light Kaunria Kathi (jute sticks) & offer prayers to their ancestors.
The burning sticks symbolise light that guides their souls back to heaven.
A beautiful tradition that reflects Odisha's rich cultural heritage, our respect for our ancestors & the importance of preserving our traditions.

Let me tell you about a festival being celebrated in my state, starting today.
Khudurukuni Osha 🪷🙏
A traditional Odisha festival mainly observed by unmarried girls for the well-being & prosperity of their brothers.
The festival is based on the story of Tapoi, a young girl whose seven brothers went away on a trading voyage. In their absence, she was mistreated by her sisters-in-law & faced many hardships.
Tapoi prayed to Goddess Mangala with khud (broken rice), hoping for her brothers’ safe return. Eventually, her brothers returned & rescued her.
Girls wake up early, collect flowers, make clay idols & offer khud, fried paddy & fruits while reading the Khudurukuni Osha story.

Shri Krishna taught us in the Mahabharata that protecting Dharma requires wisdom & strategic thinking according to the situation, rather than blindly following moral principles.
His actions throughout the Mahabharata show that sometimes we must adapt our strategies according to the circumstances, especially when dealing with those who don't follow the same principles.
The ultimate goal was to uphold Dharma.
The Mahabharata also teaches us the importance of forgiveness. But we must understand when forgiveness is appropriate & whether forgiving someone would ultimately benefit society.
Compassion is important, but so is wisdom & Strategic Thinking.
Sadgun Vikruti: When Virtue Becomes Vulnerability
Unconditional tolerance toward forces that seek to destroy you isn’t righteousness. It is collective suicide.
There is a profound concept called Sadgun Vikruti (सद्गुण विकृती) ; the fatal "distortion of virtues."
It happens when Hindus practice blind compassion and misplaced forgiveness toward hostile ideologies that weaponize those very ethics against them. Treating predatory forces with the mercy meant for peaceful coexistence isn't noble. It is self destructive naivety.
True Dharma demands strategic realism. Our classical wisdom commands
Shathe Shatyam Samacharet (शठे शाठ्यं समाचरेत्).
दुष्टता के साथ दुष्टता का व्यवहार करना चाहिए।
Deceitful and destructive ideologies must be countered with their own coin.
Civilizational icons like Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and Maharana Pratap protected the land because they lived this truth, rejecting passive morality to mount an iron willed defense against existential threats.
Shri Krishna teaches the exact same in the Mahabharata; protecting the innocent and preserving the cosmic balance supersedes rigid, abstract rules when facing an unprincipled adversary.
Stop letting your virtues become your vulnerabilities. True Dharma demands the power to defeat threatening forces, not surrender to a false sense of moral superiority.
Wake up, look at reality, and stand firm.
