Scottish soldiers attending to camp chores on the Western Front in France during 1914 in the early months of World War 1. Estimates for the number of Scots who died in WW1 typically range from 100,000 to about 135,000–147,000, depending on how casualties are counted.

This is where Lara Bird’s job is. UK taxpayers pay her £98,599 per year for the privilege. Did she get lost?

A pre-Budget reminder that the economic burden of corporate taxes is always borne by real people, not by businesses, 'Big Oil', or banks... 👇
Ahead of John Healey's first Budget, a reminder that companies don’t pay tax - people do. And that also applies to energy suppliers and to banks. In more technical terms, companies are only legal entities and cannot bear the economic burden of tax themselves. Tax increases are therefore always passed on to real people. Shareholders will bear some of the cost through lower profits and dividends, although many 'ordinary' people own shares through their pension funds. But customers will also pay through higher prices, while employees will face lower wages. Everyone may lose if companies cut jobs and investment or move activity overseas. So, whenever someone says, “companies should pay their fair share” or “tax banks, not workers”, ask them where the money will really come from… 🤔

Tonight, Cardiff Castle will light up green to mark Dwarfism Awareness Day. 💚 The illumination celebrates diversity and helps raise awareness and understanding of dwarfism. orlo.uk/S4Qel

A fish was found on a car windscreen at Pittenweem Harbour during Storm Boelo, and naturally, the Scots in the comments have had an absolute field day. 😂🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

We hope you are all keeping safe out there. Our Roads team is currently dropping off around 300 sandbags to Main Street, Largs. These will be located on the wide pavement space opposite the train station. If we don't have space to drop off all pallets, the rest will be deposited at the taxi rank outside train station (no train travel). We expect these to be available from around 12:30pm A second truck is being loaded and four more pallets taken to Dockhead Street area around the junction of Chapelwell Street in Saltcoats. These will also available from (or before) 12:30.

Important public service information here.
I do challenge the advice about stockpiling Sauvignon blanc. Surely better to stockpile a red - because if the power goes down, the white would be room temperature, which would be simply ghastly.

This is the most South Ayrshire thing I have ever heard.
Somebody who works at South Ayrshire Council cannot spell the word "Council". Because of this, Scottish Power has been trying to bill me, Damian Counsell—FOR LITERALLY YEARS NOW—for electricity it has been providing to it.

You couldn’t make it up 👇🏻
🚨Sneaked out by OFGEM this morning, a warning for the first time EVER they cannot guarantee that demand will be met on a peak day in winter. Let’s be clear what that means. They cannot guarantee that homes will be warm, lights come on or industry function on a peak day this winter. And why? Because of an accelerated decline in domestic gas supply from the North Sea. So what is the solution? For British bill payers to pay more, to IMPORT more from Europe (specifically Belgium) to keep the lights on in Britain. Britain. A country with vast supplies of gas, untapped, deliberately due to Labour policy now going cap in hand to Europe and paying vast sums to import foreign gas. It is utterly outrageous. You couldn’t make it up. ofgem.gov.uk/sites/default/f…
