On Variational you can't withdraw your own funds permissionlessly
Read their contracts. As far as I can tell:
- Collateral sits in per-user usdc pools on arbitrum, ~$224m across ~208k pools
- You can deposit into your pool but you can't withdraw from it yourself. Every withdrawal goes through their oracle contract and only addresses with PROVIDER_ROLE can trigger it
- 17 addresses have that role, 16 of them plain wallets (EOAs). as far as i can read the code, any one of them can move usdc out of any pool on its own, and the contracts don't cap the amount
- The admin that hands out these roles and can pause the oracle is a single EOA: 0x8e4d1ad423e4f37600cda314fd3d99629ceaeabf. role changes take effect immediately
- Docs describe the olp vault as "a smart contract where the capital that powers OLP (USDC) is secured". the address they list for it, 0x74bbbb0e7f0bad6938509dd4b556a39a4db1f2cd, has no code. It's an EOA
- the protocol treasury, 0x5e91b40467fb8902c46a7b6cb90482363188d645 (~$12m usdc), is one of the 17 provider keys
Docs say the keys live on fireblocks. If there are policies on them (limits, quorum) that answers most of this, but none of it is visible onchain
@variational_io how is the admin key secured, do provider keys have limits, and how does a user get funds out if your backend is down?

I am shocked by all the drama around TxFlow @TxFlow_L1 on X. I don't like emotions in things like this. I like facts. That's why I dug a little into the topic, and here is what I found.
- TxFlow really used some of Hyperliquid's smart contracts. The bridge contract is a fork. In crypto, bridges have always been a weak spot. There have been so many bridge hacks. Hyperliquid's bridge is battle-tested. Ok.
- TxFlow used some similar phrasing to Hyperliquid in the UI. In the tooltips, etc. That's a mistake. Is it critical? Of course it's not.
- The consensus layer and trading engine are built by TxFlow team from the ground up. That's the code they built entirely. That's a huge part of the DEX...
- Validators: Hyperliquid launched mainnet in the first quarter of 2023 (~3.5 years ago) with only several validators. Expanded the pool later on. TxFlow launched mainnet just 5 months ago... Of course TxFlow can't have 27 validators like Hyperliquid has now.
Yes, TxFlow really used some Hyperliquid code. But calling it a "low-effort copycat" is too much. People ignore that the projects are very different at the same time:
TxFlow has a very different marketing approach with BDs onboarding traders. It has a very different referral program. It has different liquidity sources. It has a unique UI.
TxFlow has pretty good spreads for some pairs. The funding rates are pretty stable on the assets I trade.
It's live for 5 months, but I didn't see any stories of poor performance or liquidation issues that usually occur on new DEXes.
It never had security issues.
Calling TxFlow a "low effort copycat" is just not right. The team put HUGE effort into making TxFlow work fine. From my experience, it's a pretty good DEX that works better than many DEXes out there.
I am not an advocate. I just want to show the other side of the coin many people forgot about.

i’m here to make money. financial freedom, getting out of the matrix, not winning a debate about whose tech is more original
sometimes CT forgets why we’re all here
in 2025, CT tried to bury lighter. the “it’s a cheap hl copy” and “it’s a ponzi” takes all came out
a few believers stayed, farmed through the noise and walked away with life-changing money and i was one of them
now i’m watching the same movie with txflow, and the fud this time is a fraction of what lighter took
i’m not here to defend txflow. i’m not here to fight hyperliquid maxis. i’m not picking sides
half the L1s copied ethereum’s EVM and people still got paid. nobody asked who wrote the code first
if the product works for my strategy and the risk makes sense, why should i care about the tribalism?
look around crypto. entire ecosystems have borrowed ideas from earlier chains. the market doesn't reward you for picking the most original tech. it rewards you for being positioned correctly.
i'm not saying ignore security risks or blindly trust any project. do your research, understand the risks, and protect your capital.
i run txflow delta neutral, farming funding with no directional exposure, and i size it like any early venue, never more than i can afford to have stuck
the only thing i wish they’d copy from hyperliquid is the airdrop

honestly, some of this does piss me off. not the sceptics. the people who had their verdict before reading a single line.
i spent 14 months and my own money building a matching engine that runs inside consensus. the reply is “claude could do that in a weekend.” ok. go do it. put your followers’ money on it. i’ll wait.
