I recently sat down with @PJVogt to chat about North Korea’s undercover U.S. workforce.
I’ve been a fan of Search Engine and Reply All for years, so being a part of an episode was a real treat.
If you have some spare time, give it a listen!

SCOOP: While Bo Hines was leading the White House’s push to pass the Genius Act, Tether—the company with the most at stake in the bill—was steering millions of dollars to a company he co-owned.
Right after the bill passed, Tether hired him as its U.S. chief.

It's almost impressive that the Knicks just provided the greatest New York sports memory ever and James Dolan will still be forever reviled
The Knicks' assistant coaches did not receive their championship rings during Tuesday's ceremony, despite being handed ring boxes, according to league sources.
Many longtime employees at Madison Square Garden will not receive rings at all, per team sources.
Those employees got their hopes up in late September, when they were sent a fake championship ring offer as part of a phishing test.

Walked into the office to see this--what an honor. So proud that “The Business of Babies” earned a Gerald Loeb Award honorable mention. I played a small part, but getting to work alongside @ByKLong , @BenFoldy, @DanaMattioli, @EmilyGlazer, @sara_randazzo, @AmyDMarcus @csstewart @johnjcook was the real prize. This team is gold. Congrats to all the @WSJ winners! 🎉

In August, Trump announced the “BIGGEST OIL DEAL IN WORLD HISTORY!”
But is it?
The text of the accord — which grants the U.S. sweeping access to Venezuela’s oil reserves — has been one of DC’s most sought-after secrets.
ProPublica got to see a copy. 🧵

New: In early 2025, the FBI embarked on a major bribery investigation involving some of the most powerful men in Washington: Sen. Lindsey Graham, Rep. Jim Clyburn, and Rep. Joe Wilson. Then Trump purged the FBI and DOJ, leaving no one to carry out the investigation. It’s dead. 🧵

We’re back with our second story about how Trump’s purge of the FBI killed a sweeping bribery probe in D.C.
This time, we take you to South Carolina, where two powerful politicians escaped scrutiny:
Sen. Lindsey Graham and Rep. James Clyburn.

Last year the FBI opened what could have been an explosive corruption investigation.
Agents were looking at potential bribery of some of the most powerful people in DC, including Lindsey Graham & Jim Clyburn.
Then Trump purged the FBI & it was shut down propublica.org/article/navat…

Inside an ICE facility, women talked about the 911 calls that landed them there — from men who had beat them, choked them, threatened deportation.
“I had suffered from domestic violence,” one woman said. “But the one who ended up in trouble was me.”

Great move for a great reporter; few people know Albany better than Jimmy
Personal news: Today I'm starting a new job as a deputy managing editor at the Albany @timesunion, overseeing their Capitol Bureau.
I'm incredibly excited to again be working for the paper I grew up reading.

The Toyota Century was one of the coolest designs of ANYTHING I saw in Japan. Such a cool style. I’m not even a car guy but surprised I’ve never seen it before - feels like it should be big in the US.

Earlier, I tweeted a video from an Abdul El-Sayed town hall. I deleted that tweet because it was a violation of CBS News standards. I apologize.
From an investigative standpoint this is a good point… with people accused of deception, keep focus on actions v words. Steps towards accountability, restitution, retaliation, etc.
A few readers have taken me to task for “missing the point of the film,” which is apparently that Elizabeth Holmes is unknowable and everything is ambiguous. Here’s my response: She went after Tyler Shultz and Erika Cheung with everything she had. I was threatened with litigation on a daily basis for months on end. It was a ruthless cover-up of a breathtaking fraud, and she was at the controls. Just a little context for those who have forgotten or didn’t follow the original story. By the way, I loved the film. #BestPicture, IMO.

10 journalists from Serbia's N1 resigned today. The channel was for a long time the only TV channel that issued reports critical of the government. In May, its parent company was sold to to Luxembourg-based European Future Media Investments, managed by Alpac Capital. (After Alpac bought Euronews in 2022, reporters from Direkt36 and Le Monde showed that the acquisition was partly financed by Hungarian state capital and companies connected to the political network of Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán.)
But back to the resignations. Here's an excerpt of the letter the 10 journalists sent to their management, which was shared with me:
"Under the new management, we have witnessed falsehoods, manipulation, insidious censorship, the public discrediting of colleagues, their professional marginalisation, insults and humiliation, changes to programme editors, and a refusal to engage in open
discussions about the problems.
While genuine dialogue within the newsroom has been eliminated, the illusion of dialogue is being created on air. We do not want to take part in misleading our audience through the simulation of debates, the forced presentation of opposing political actors as equivalent, and the staging of normality while disregarding the authorities’ long-standing and well-documented treatment of N1, as well as the broader social and political context in which we live and work.
Precisely because Serbia is facing the most unpredictable elections since N1 was established, we refuse, under these circumstances, to lend legitimacy to an editorial policy we cannot stand behind. The new management has restricted our scope for action to such an extent that our remaining at N1 would have no impact on what its programming looks like in the days ahead."
