What kinds of strange creatures did our ancient ancestors see? Across various pieces of art thousands of years old are weird unidentified and terrifying animals. These are the hidden cryptids in ancient artwork.

One of the most bizarre yet widespread cryptids is known as the crowing crested cobra. It's said to be a large snake- sometimes larger than any known snakes, with a chicken like comb on the top of its head. They're also sometimes said to make chicken-like noises.

Not "Bigfoot," the late John Green commented, instead calling them the "Big Hairy Apes." To me (@CryptoLoren), they are "True Giants." Coauthored a published book about the different species with the late Mark A. Hall.

Day 152 of drawing every day until my skills improve. Sproat lake monster. A monster hunter-inspired design. I really like the colored pencil work on this one. Very nice. #art #cryptid #cryptozoology
Sproat Lake in Canada is home to a rather peculiar lake monster. Travelers on Vancouver Island reportedly saw a two humped creature swimming there. This freaky drawing of a "sea wolf" is present nearby and has been connected to the monster which is called naitaka in the area.

So here is a really weird sighting and the investigation that I was involved in. About 12 years ago I got a call from a neighbor that said something attacked her dog, and she shot it with a .22, but the bullet bounced off of the strange critter. Going up to her
In the 1800s a giant species of snail was reported in parts of New Zealand. They would live in pairs on the top of trees and eat the dead bark there.

In 1967, Roger Patterson led an expedition that resulted in one of the most discussed pieces of film in history being captured. They couldn’t fathom the grasp that footage would have on the world in the decades to come – or the effect it would have on those around them.

Day 150 of drawing everyday until my skills improve. Sinyinao. Jovial little guy. I know dinosaurs like microraptor and archeopteryx are quite well known but they are still quite unique. #art #cryptid #cryptozoology #paleoart #paleontology

I think I got a cool idea for a a big foot illustration. Thoughts so far. Also I’m really enjoying Night Flight Plus.
One of the stranger bird cryptids is known as the siyiniao from China. Its said to be a smaller yellow bird with a round head, but it strangely has two sets of wings, one larger and one smaller. This led to people theorizing that the siyiniao is a living microraptor.

Day 149 of drawing everyday until my skills improve. Was nawahni. While in college I started listening to the unnatural history channel and his videos on monster hunter. Really inspiring stuff for ecology. #art #cryptid #cryptozoology
