The physics books almost always get relativity wrong, as if it was just some revelation Einstein had, instead of being an implication he was forced to by Galileo and Maxwell. A short from @OriginsProject podcast (youtube.com/watch?v=UOIci8VH…) #Science #Physics #LawrenceKrauss #Einstein

"I am a computer program!" Embodiment is basically irrelevant for consciousness, so says @DavidDeutschOxf... and he brings the proof.

If
Neuroscientists Giulio Tononi, Christof Koch, et al. make a strong case for real free will (not an illusion) if Integrated Information Theory (IIT) is the correct explanation of consciousness: "If IIT is right, we do have free will in a genuine sense: we have alternatives, reasons, and values, we make decisions, and we—not our neurons or atoms—are the cause of our willed actions and bear responsibility for them." arxiv.org/abs/2206.02069

Another reminder that the familiar story of logical positivism’s demise is largely a myth. Its verificationist criterion failed, but its broader empiricist, naturalistic, and anti-metaphysical project survives in analytic philosophy.
Opponents of logical positivism like to quote A.J. Ayer’s quip to Bryan Magee that the problem with the philosophical movement is that “nearly all of it was false.” What they typically fail to note is that he immediately adds that it was still “true in spirit”! 1/🧵

Ukrainas bombing av russisk datasenter har ikke bare medført voldsom reduksjon i GOP- og AfD-støtte på Twitter. Det har også medført at norske Trump-fans har mistet kontakten med nettkjæresten sin.

Jack Smith: I stand by my decisions as special counsel, including my decision to bring charges against President Trump. Our investigation developed proof beyond a reasonable doubt that President Trump engaged in serious crimes against our nation. The charges against President Trump were the result of the evidence. Rather than accept his defeat in the 2020 presidential election, he engaged in a criminal scheme to overturn the results and prevent the lawful transfer of power.
