holy f*cking sh*t i plugged my iphone 13 into my computer last night and claude found 1,284 photos apple swore i had deleted one prompt. 4 minutes. no code. i just asked claude to tell me where my storage was actually going it opened a folder i did not know existed: PhotoData/MISC/Originals inside, in full resolution with gps and timestamps still attached: -> original un-edited versions of every photo i cropped or filtered in the last 2 years -> full-res copies of photos i cleared from Recently Deleted months ago -> live photo motion files for pictures i deleted a year ago -> gps-tagged shots from locations i do not want on record the thing apple does not say out loud: when you edit a photo, ios keeps the ORIGINAL as a separate file so you can "revert". that file does NOT get deleted when you delete the photo the shot you cropped a face out of 2 years ago is still a full image with that face in it. right now. on your phone i would never have found this on my own. i did not know the folder existed. claude read the backup like a map and handed me 1,284 receipts then it listed every app with Photos access, sorted by last used. 17 apps. 6 i did not recognize. one from 2023 revoked all of them in 90 seconds. settings → privacy → photos → none the prompt is in the article below. 8 minutes end to end what else is on your iphone right now that only claude would notice bookmark this before your next backup
