In 2016 a user named Mike released the first rare pepe on Bitcoin, the Nakamoto Card. With no easy way of trading @wasthatawolf developed rarepepewallet. It was a first of its kind, even before Opensea and the term NFTs was released. A new movement on Bitcoin was born. 🐸

Correct ☑️
In 2014 XCP itself launched through a Proof-of-Burn mechanism tied directly to Bitcoin: 2,131 BTC was permanently burned in early 2014 (worth $136,773,828 at today's prices) to create the token. That burned Bitcoin anchored the entire Counterparty ecosystem, including these early meme assets to Bitcoin's security and decentralization. After the first card released in 2016 anyone could submit to enter the directory. A community was born and people started to create pepe art and memes. Artists issued each card design directly as XCP assets on Bitcoin. The Rare Pepe Foundation (the scientists) simply curated what appears in the official rare pepe directory. 🐸🧪

Creator of the Rare Pepe Wallet btw 🐸🔬
Amongst the first inscribed art on bitcoin (sub 1k) are a tons of cards from the pepe directory (2016). When ordinals released rare pepe scientists instantly recognized its potential to store pepe art on Bitcoin. 🐸 Started 10 years ago and now living on chain.

Still the most historically important collection on Runes protocol Study Bricks
10 RUNE•BRICKS etched to Runes Procol sub5k Each Rune token has a supply of 1 making them non fungible I am going to burn the jpeg inscriptions meaning the only ownership of them will be through the Rune tokens This will mean Onchain Data + Onchain ownership or as I like to call it Basterdized Stamps I have no plans for these btw, it was just a fun experiment. I like playing with new tech Thanks @wasthatawolf for the bricks inspiration. Your sub 2k Ordinal bricks are amongst my fav early collections and thanks to @nishseq and your Rare•Pups idea that I put a twist on by making each token supply 1 🧡 #Ordinals #Stamps #Runes

It might be a good ide to start investing in ordinals right now. If you are into ordinals consider getting a sub 2k inscription. Bitcoin Bricks is my top pick: a Collection of 10 Unique Bricks by Joe Looney, with early inscription range #1,442 to #1,507.🧵👇
My birthday is this Saturday ! Instead of receiving any gifts, I would really just love my amazing friends at @opensea to support all the Bitcoin Ordinal collections and their communities. Would be the best 🎁 ever

12 years ago today, a group of developers sent 2,130 Bitcoin to an unspendable address. This was no accident. Here is the story of Counterparty. Art by @bettidlomas

As of Jan 2026, Bitcoin Ordinals' market cap is roughly $100-200M (summing top collections like NodeMonkes at $24M). Ethereum NFTs total over $2B (e.g., CryptoPunks at $846M). Bitcoin's segment is much smaller, suggesting potential undervaluation due to its newer ecosystem and Bitcoin's security edge.

lets model this out... -take a list of utxos using ord and determine them unspendable in bitcoin -ord creates a new version that lets users sign a tx with that unspendable utxo privkey to associate the inscriptions with a new utxo they can literally do this forever

We might finally be getting structured attributes in the next ord release! @rodarmor added a `title` in PR 4424. Presumably, more on the way. Both gallery items and inscriptions will have attributes. And galleries can finally replace off-chain collection JSON files.
