staying on twitter just long enough to keep on top of ao3 updates (glad I was here now to see this and change my ao3 usage accordingly) and then going back on a fuckinโ€™ cortisol cleanse and redeleting this app and leaving this rot to the maggots again

THIS. Iโ€™ve been working on my latest fic for well over a year, and itโ€™s hardly the first time. If anyone could write fanfic, then everyone would have done that instead of hoarding and disseminating the work of others without a second thought.
I think this is the foundation concept behind the vitriol towards writers weโ€™ve seen since the AO3 shutdown. โ€œAnyone can type/edit/post a ficโ€. Iโ€™ve clocked over 300k words a year for three years, my acc is somewhere around a mil. Try it and let me know if itโ€™s in fact work.

โ€œmaking an ao3 block list for anti-drive writersโ€ BROTHA you couldnโ€™t go one single day without binging fic at the expense of writersโ€™ autonomy, do you expect me to believe youโ€™re going to make the effort to not mindlessly click on whatever fic wrings dopamine from your brain?

you couldnโ€™t be bothered to download the fic you love, couldnโ€™t be bothered to remember an author name or two to reach out, letโ€™s be serious: we both know youโ€™re too damn lazy to vet your fic binges. ๐Ÿ˜ญ see you in my hits section in a couple weeks! ๐Ÿ˜˜

starting to get to the point that itโ€™s funny. like holy shit there are thousands of people out there who clicked an updoot button on the most illogical, self-serving opinions, and it is 100% because they consume all their media spiritually mouth open, lips dry. ๐Ÿ˜‚ embarrassinggg

being a fan writer rn feels very much like being an actor in a popular IP. super fun at first, but then the fan base gets huge and the toxicity starts running rampant, and now you canโ€™t say shit without a stunning percentage of โ€œfansโ€ being like โ€œFUCK YOU, YOUโ€™RE RUINING ITโ€

at this point, all I see is the equivalent of like โ€œnot MY captain americaโ€ or โ€œwhy did they hire her, sheโ€™s uglyโ€ like just arguments that are such a cope and so rooted in chronically online insecurity that you just have to go โ€œ๐Ÿคฆ๐Ÿฝwell, thereโ€™s still a kind minority of normalcy.โ€

I make a rambling thread of ideas first to outline, then go back and start writing a real draft while deleting the thread as I finish those plot points. I find it helps ease the block to be able to read ahead and go โ€œoh yeah, itโ€™s almost THAT scene, canโ€™t wait to get there!โ€
what is everyoneโ€™s best tips when u comes to writing fics. i often find myself giving up during the beginning stages of writing because iโ€™m very hypercritical of my own work. itโ€™s super discouraging and i was wondering if anyone had any ways they kind of just power thru it

77k links, of which 1.7k are google docs, 12.8k are drive folders, and the rest are epubs. For the docs and drive folders, the uploaders email IDs are visible, many with what appears to be their real names. I'm sure many people are unaware their data has been compromised.
idk where you stand on the "writers vs readers" debate (we are all the same community) but if ao3 life is listing drives, they have access to it, and if you've used your real email to host these drives, you're vulnerable. i can see your FULL NAMES here. be cautious!!!

i agree that there's definitely a repository of ai scraped data somewhere at the very least. but i believe a huge reason all these sites are popping up NOW is bc they're seeing the 'need' as these drive links are getting massive viewership, likes, saves.
no, someone putting your fic in a google drive does not give ai the ability to access your drafts?? i know emotions are high but lets use our logic brains, gang. "ganesh" almost definitely got access to breached data. don't let them manipulate you.

Very first quote I see: โ€œthis is what you should b upset about, not downloaded epubsโ€ THAT IS THE POINT. WE WERE MEVER MAD ABOUT THE EPUBS, WE WERE MAD ABOUT REUPLOADS BECAUSE IT HAS LED DIRECTLY TO THIS I was making silly jokes but HOLY FUCK these people truly canโ€™t read/think
bro what the fuck are we doing. is this just life now

Do you seriously think these AI bros would be doing this with such confidence if they didnโ€™t see that people were immediately willing to throw writers under the bus in their desperation for fics? Any community thatโ€™s so easy to fracture is one thatโ€™s even easier to monetize.

People charging money for the work you did for free for fans, and these fans themselves collating google drives against your will, practically handing it over to these bad actors, and calling you selfish and entitled when you ask them not to repost your work on google drive...
So just a heads up on this: There are a number of LLCs that were registered yesterday and all mysteriously scraping and creating similar sites that all have the same cache of our materials. The newest offender has yet to "load in batches", meaning they are actively making more.

It will be interesting to see what ao3โ€™s response will be, if anything. Personally, I think broad attitudes toward writers and the immediate leap from โ€œwe share EVERYTHING, TOO BADโ€ to โ€œthere are AI slop sites SELLING scraped ficโ€ should at least garner SOMETHING from daddy OTW.

I would love a toggle for downloads, so we can choose whether or not to make them downloadable whatsoever. Would also love a statement at least, now that sharing without permission has so easily turned into SELLING without permission.

not to be a dick but this is VERBATIM what hoardes of fic writers say when anything (usually untargeted writing advice) makes them feel insecure about their writing. it sucks but we are the architects of this mindset. stop doing this. writing's hard. take pride in your shit.

loving the posts that are like โ€œthis is so unserious itโ€™s not art itโ€™s just FAN FICTION ๐Ÿ˜‚โ€ with 2000000000000 likes. did you know that all writing is writing. can you read this real quick

day 5 of no ao3 there are at least 4 different ao3 clones made by AI with scraped data; people are compiling lists of authors who don't want their works to be published outside of ao3 to block them after; somebody had just called writers greedy capitalists again it's tuesday

English/Spanish posts: Writers are petite bourgeois stealing from IP owners Chinese posts: I am grateful to farmers who put food on my table, and labourers for maintaining the infrastructure, and cleaners for keeping the streets tidy, and writers who bring me enjoyment for free
