A high level regional stabilising security meeting has started in Tehran. The session brings Iranian national security officials led by Ali Bagheri Kani to the table with a joint delegation: Pakistan’s FM CDF Asim Munir, Saudi Defence Minister Prince Khalid bin Salman & Turkish Intelligence Chief Ibrahim Kalin.
This meeting is the direct operational result of military diplomacy led by FM CDF Asim Munir, who visited Tehran last week to hold preparatory talks with President @drpezeshkian & top security leadership, establishing the deconfliction baseline required to bring Riyadh & Ankara into the room.
📍The summit marks the first active deployment of the tripartite Makkah Joint Defence Agreement. Meeting directly in Tehran confirms the pact functions under UN Article 51 as a defensive crisis management mechanism not an offensive bloc.
📍As the only nuclear armed state in the grouping, with deep conventional warfare experience and a 900km border with Iran, Pakistan holds the central balance. Islamabad is using this leverage to bridge Gulf defense commitments with border security in Tehran.
📍The talks focus on mutual guarantees. The visiting delegation is offering assurances that regional bases will not be used for 3rd party strikes against #Iran, while demanding an immediate halt to asymmetric missile & drone strikes targeting Gulf infrastructure & maritime lanes.
📍Pakistan’s diplomatic standing is backed by hard industrial agreements. 5 days ago in Doha, #Pakistan, #Turkey, #Qatar & #Indonesia signed the Badr Accord to establish joint defence R&D & production, strengthening sovereign technological depth.
📍Expanding this hardware base, Pakistan & Qatar are finalising an unmanned combat & counter drone agreement through Barzan Holdings, with additional regional partners in line to join. This gives the alliance indigenous capability against low cost aerial & naval saturation threats.
The era of relying exclusively on the US as the Middle East’s sole security guarantor is ending. With the US pivoting its strategic focus away from Middle Eastern stabilisation, Pakistan is stepping into that space uniting Gulf partners under the Makkah pact, driving sovereign defence depth through the Badr Accord & bringing Iran directly to the table as the region's primary net security provider.
