5 November 1947 remains one of the darkest and least acknowledged chapters in the history of Jammu and Kashmir. The mass killing and forced displacement of Jammu’s Muslims must be remembered. Nearly eight decades later, historical accountability remains essential. My new article: mubeenshah1.substack.com/p/5… An important question often overlooked: Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah was already Head of the Emergency Administration from 30 October 1947, with Bakshi Ghulam Mohammad as his deputy. What did the administration know about the situation in Jammu? What action was taken to protect its Muslim population? These questions demand serious archival investigation, not political avoidance. My father’s recollection was deeply disturbing: Muslim homes in Jammu abandoned in haste, with food still in cooking pots. That image tells us something statistics cannot.
