Our timely contribution to the growing body of YebC2/TACO1 literature 🤩! YebC2 is a third factor that prevents ribosome stalling at prolines. Associates with 70S and important for fitness in absence of EF-P and YfmR. biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/…

This is really a stunning paper. Cyanobacteria exposed to shorter days (in the lab) "rewire" their membrane lipids to anticipate cold weather. When those cells are plunged into cold water, they have "two or three-times higher survival" than cells exposed to longer days.

Congrats to @biozentrum @snsf_ch Ambizione Group Leader @FlorentWaltz on this stunning study🤩 of respirasome structure & organization inside native cells! It's amazing how quickly in situ #cryoET is advancing. Read Florent's thread🧵 for the high-resolution details🔎🦠 #TeamTomo
Super excited to share our latest work on the native in-cell organization of the mitochondrial respiratory chain 🥳 Using cryo-electron tomography🔬, we show how the respiratory complexes (and other complexes) are organized inside native mitochondria!  biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/…

Here, Koch lab reports on bacterial ribosome hibernation. They show that the membrane-tethering hibernation factors YqjD/ElaB/YgaM, discovered by Wada in E. coli, are widely conserved in proteobacteria and likely target the ribosomal peptide tunnel👍 biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/…

Out now in @PNASNews we used Tn-seq to identify genetic interactions with EF-P in B. subtilis. We found that 1) the ABCF YfmR (Uup) is required in absence of EF-P in some conditions pnas.org/doi/10.1073/pnas.23…

Check out our latest: Using smFRET, we determine an entirely new mechanism for mRNA activation. As part of this work, we assign novel functions for each of the eIF4F components, including a 'hopping' activity of eIF4G and a 'strippase' activity of eIF4A. 🔬biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/…

😯Sydney Brenner (Nobel Prize winner) was not a fan of Systems Biology. Systems Biology: To study a drum in the next room, record the sounds and reconstruct the physical properties of the drum. Experimental science: Get in, get hold of the drum, get its structure and play it.
