I have a sizable backlog of more commercially popular books by white cis male authors - but curating your tbr is necessary! You can only read so much, why not strive to read diversely even if you’re passing on a few probably not excellent “must read” books

A1 in not just in my book choices but also my interactions w/ bookppl i feel its important to keep the widest most varied view to reflect the actual real world we live in. I see out of one pair of eyes; its important for me to read about people places & things i dont understand!

Q1: What do you think your role, as a member of the book community, is in fostering diversity and inclusivity? How is that reflected in your reading choices? #BookNetFest

A2. I haven't seen all of pushback, but know there is much more than what makes it into my eyes/hears. Those that feel that meeting a "quota" fulfills diversity and inclusion are fundamentally flawed.
"We've already promoted one ---- so won't promote another." NOPE!

I like all aspects of it to be real 😁 starting and being halfway and realizing you're really enjoying it and then riding the joy to the end. #BookNetFest
Q7: What is your favorite part of the reading experience? Starting a new book, finishing a book, picking your next book?
(btw it’s @libofalexa hosting now!) #booknetfest

A1: Mood reading because as soon as I plan to read something my brain is like let’s not read that actually and pick up something else.
@noreadingdegree here. We will start off this chat nice and easy,
Q1: Do you prefer mood reading or more of a organized reading schedule (i.e. TBRs, readathons)

Just Mercy by Bryan Stevenson challenged me too think, not just about who the justice system works for and who it fails, but what Justice actually means. Who is it for?

A4: the most recent book for me was Ghosts in the Schoolyard. Nicole and I read it last month for our nonfiction book club, and it made me think a lot about the role of empathy in academic research, especially when we're talking about communities impacted by racist policies

A3: YES, 100% YES! And I am so grateful for it. My eyes have been opened to so much in the years of being in the community that being from a smaller town sheltered me from. I will forever attribute a lot of my growth as a human to the reading community and books❤️ #BooknetFest

A1- if im reading for fun, im just absorbing the material as i go, I'll usually reflect on it later. Critically, i will tab or annotate, make some kind of notes about plot setting diction, I'll plan on doing a review. My reading is usually a mixture of both though.

Q1: Do you and/or how do you personally differentiate between "reading for fun" and reading more critically? #BookNetFest

A1: I personally find myself reading more for fun on a first go around with a book, and then on rereads, I read deeper into the entire story and characters! I am a massive fan of rereads because of this reason!
