Quite the introduction of Isaac Herzog by Chatham House chief executive @bronwenmaddox 👇xitter.cf/hippyygoat/status/1966… Which shows the extent to which Israel, despite some tactical victories, is in fact suffering a larger strategic defeat: they're seen as a pariah state even within the heart of their Western allies' establishment (which Chatham House very much is). "Big deal", you'll say, but it actually matters and Israel knows it: why do you think the country's president submit himself to such an uncomfortable exercise if he thought it didn't? At the end of the day we're a species driven by narratives - perception is reality - and there are plenty of historical examples (South Africa, Rhodesia, Serbia, etc.) where reputational collapse preceded, and drove, actual collapse. The distance from "pariah state" to "former state" is shorter than most realize, and even if Israel avoids that fate, pariah status is deeply corrosive from within - you end up "winning" yourself into a kind of toxic prison.

I remember the silence when landing and pilot announced Trump won first time. I remember the despair when he got in the second time. How could people be so cruel/dumb/wrong. Now have we ever seen so much interest in the midterms? Don’t stuff this up America.

People like Hanson & US Trump give people permission to act with anger and hate. Decent people pay the price. Whether its to be ridiculed for talking out about a health issue, hurling death threats in HoR by an MP, anon death threats or now the unthinkable a serious vicious act.

Appears to be absolutely MASSIVE protests all across the US yesterday and this platform is so skewed to the Trump/Putin side that this is the first I've seen or heard of it.
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
The montage uses recycled footage from larger 2025 and March 2026 No Kings protests, not Oct 17 2026 Vote Early events. Those were smaller localized gatherings (hundreds to thousands per city) focused on early voting, not the massive crowds shown. nytimes.com/2026/10/17/us/… abc7ny.com/post/no-kings-… minnesotareformer.com/2026/10/17/hun… npr.org/2026/10/17/nx-…

Not a word on Twitter still about the flagrantly authoritarian and racist raid on Ilhan Omar’s home by the Trump administration from multiple top Democrats, including shamefully @SenSchumer, but glad Barack Obama is finally speaking out on it. Other Dems should follow his lead.
It is a basic principle of American democracy that the government can’t selectively target individuals simply because of their political beliefs or what they say. But that’s exactly what the Trump Administration is doing to Congresswoman Ilhan Omar of Minnesota. To understand why this is so appalling, it’s important to know the facts. Congresswoman Omar came to this country with her father when she was 12 years old. Five years later, her father became a naturalized citizen. If Ilhan had been 18 at the time, she would have had to apply for citizenship separately. But because she was 17, she became a naturalized citizen automatically. Congresswoman Omar went on to graduate from college, work as a community organizer, become the first Somali-American legislator elected to public office in the U.S., and win a seat in Congress. There, she has been one of the Trump Administration’s fiercest critics, which has led the president to repeatedly single her out as someone who he believes does not belong in this country. Now the Administration is actively trying to deport Congresswoman Omar, seemingly based solely on the unsubstantiated theory that she was actually 18 when her father was naturalized, and therefore is not a citizen. Federal agents have raided her home, confiscated personal records, and seized her phone — all to try and uncover a nonexistent smoking gun from 20 years ago that will somehow make their case. Think about that. The full weight of the federal government is being brought down on a law-abiding elected official because she has dared to criticize the president. And it’s not the first time this has happened. Under President Trump, the Justice Department has repeatedly gone after those he considers his political enemies — from the Attorney General of New York, to the former head of the FBI, to members of the Federal Reserve. In those cases, the prosecutions either stalled or were dismissed for having no basis in law, and the same is likely to happen in this case. But not before Congresswoman Omar’s life has been turned upside down, her legal bills have piled up, and she’s been forced to spend time fighting unsubstantiated charges instead of serving the people of Minnesota. The fact that any president, or any administration, is willing to engage in such transparent efforts to intimidate someone should outrage all Americans, regardless of how they feel about Congresswoman Omar’s political views. Because if this becomes the new normal, there’s no reason to believe it will stop with her — or that future presidents, in either party, won’t do the same.

Many Australians that were going to support @Greens agree with Ukraine Greens
Statement of the Green Party of Ukraine  The Green Party of Ukraine (GPU) expresses its deep disappointment with recent statements by newly elected Australian Greens leader Senator David Shoebridge regarding the refusal to provide military assistance to Ukraine. We sincerely thank the Australian Greens for supporting humanitarian missions and calling for a complete embargo on Russian oil. At the same time, we emphasise that refusing to provide defensive weapons to a country waging a just war of liberation is a dangerous illusion that plays into the hands of the aggressor, Vladimir Putin. The Green Party of Ukraine emphasises: Dogmatic pacifism kills. As part of the global environmental movement, we share a commitment to peace. However, pacifism in the face of a ruthless invader does not stop war — it leads to occupation and the destruction of an entire nation. Ukraine is exercising its legitimate right to self-defence under Article 51 of the UN Charter. The absurdity of a “UN veto”. Senator Shoebridge’s demand that arms supplies be authorised through the UN Security Council, where Russia holds the power of veto, is detached from reality. It is equivalent to asking a criminal for permission to call the police. Russia’s war is causing massive ecocide. Russian forces deliberately destroy dams, mine millions of hectares of Ukraine’s fertile black soil, burn unique nature reserves and poison Europe’s water resources. Environmental protection is impossible without protecting the people who live in that environment. The only way to stop this ecological catastrophe is to stop the Russian army by force. Unity among the global Greens. Green parties across Europe have long recognised this threat. They are at the forefront of political forces demanding maximum military assistance for Ukraine. We call on our Australian colleagues to follow the example of their European Green counterparts. The Green Party of Ukraine welcomes the position taken by Australian Senator Sarah Hanson-Young Senator Sarah Hanson-Young and those members of the Australian Greens who have publicly spoken out in defence of Ukraine. We call on David Shoebridge to reconsider his position, listen to the voices of Ukrainian environmentalists and support the provision of defensive weapons to Ukraine. Only victory over the aggressor can restore lasting peace and security to the European continent. greenparty.ua/patsyfizm-ne-z…
