This bronze sculpture broke the ATH record for an Iranian artwork and sold for a bit above $1 million at the Tehran Auction of contemporary arts and made a lot of headlines
Mostly the usual “its money laundering” or the lovely “this is so ugly, i could’ve made it too”
Yet all i could think of was how the most expensive piece of blue chip art in our auction history is cheaper than a floor zombie Punk, which was quite a shocking realization, not that this Tanavoli Sculpture was cheap, but the fact that NFTs and Crypto have altered my perception of value and price tags so much that looking at a million dollar literal record breaking piece of art only pings one response in my mind and that is “huh free”
Not everything has to go mainstream in order to be deemed successful.
BAYC was cool because it was niche, weird and relatable for a group of people who didn’t quite relate to other communities or corners of the Internet,
Watering it down to gain larger crowds and more diverse - and unrelated - audiences from card collectors to gamers, will only result in having a spread too thin that eventually loses both the niche and the mainstream due to not having any original tangible substance left in it’s core to inspire any devotion to the brand outside of pure financial speculations by the literal worst kind of people on earth.
Make Apes Weird Again
Imagine being mad & salty because a bunch of like minded people from all around the world have gathered together thanks to their shared special interest, hosted by the creators of that special interest & the greatest living digital artist on the planet. ngmi
You can talk about financials, brand strategies, roadmaps and stuff all you want, but at the end of the day, This is all it’s really about.
A community of people who enjoy each other’s company and know how to have fun together
(Definitely not a cult tho 👀)
Long live @BoredApeYC
Very Special thanks to @beeple

Can’t believe that i finally got to visit a dedicated generative art show in Tehran, after years of being obsessed with it myself and having no one to talk to about, especially in the Iranian art scene.
Interestingly the organizers were almost entirely NFT agnostic and zero knowledge of Squiggles, Fidenzas, Mimizu and the usual subset of generative bodies of work we are used to,
Just a bunch of enthusiastic computer nerds who happened to love the idea of creative coding and the efforts and ethos of @ProcessingOrg,
Which made it even more exciting to see some works from familiar names in the exhibition like @nudoru,
@_NatSarkissian,
@annaluciacodes,
And @zolfaqqari
You love to see it
Love him or hate him, we have to admit, no one on the planet would or even could do this level of carte blanche retardmaxxing but Elon Musk
I have so many concerns, confusions and questions about the whole thing, yet all i can say watching this is:
HELL YEAH

grew up playing video games with 8 colors and using internet that took 30 secs to load a picture
made it all the way to artificial intelligence and flying cars
not bad
“For me, that early feeling of the Internet was very much about hope for the future,
Maybe those early days were the last time we had this naive idea of the future, that technology would carry us into new and positive ways of living.
The vibe and atmosphere around the early internet was about mystery and all these new things.
There was still so much to imagine”
Absolutely in love with this bit from @spogelsemaskine’s statement about their new collectible art card(?) drop with @kentocards
(The cool new physical collectible digital art cards project powered by @objktcom)

At the end of the day. I just want to see artists succeed.
My fellow friends and comrades in creativity. 🤝🏻
Also paying royalties could be optional BUT the sum total of royalties you choose not to pay, stack up & show on your public profile.
Only those with zero unpaid royalties would be allowed to benefit from certain features of the platform or participate in drops, allowlists etc
I hate dancing on graves of failed projects and dead platforms, but in the meantime i gotta admit its quite comforting watching the gradual macro vibe shift of the last couple of years through both triumphs of art centric platforms (ie @verse_works, @objktcom, @SuperRare etc) and decline of solely financial trading/loaning protocols that took the non fungibility, royalties, culture and fun out of NFTs for years.
It may not seem as sudden and flashy as the 2021 gold rush, but i truly believe that this new wave of appreciation for NFTs will have much more impact, longevity and tangibility for all the right kind of people for all the right sort of reasons.
The digital Renaissance is much closer to us than what we might assume on the Internet.
You love to see it.
